That button can be programmed to whatever you want, but if you are referring to having looked at a picture without M mode the I-Drive button is moved up to where the M button would go and another star button is placed under it giving you two multi option buttons instead of just one. But the M mode is better anyway

I have an 09 and it doesn't have the programmable star button instead it has a button that scrolls through the various audio sources (CD, SAT, iPhone, Radio etc. )
I wish I could program the button... |

Was it a picture of a non-ZTP (and non-IDrive) car? If so it is the air reciculation button.
If you post the pic and we'll tell you which of the three possibilities now listed here applies. |

09s dont have a programmable button? thats odd! I programmed the button to switch between the various audio sources anyways, but its nice to have the option of being able to choose one of many different things for this button!

not programmable like it used to be for 09...maybe they overlooked this in the new idrive (doubtful)? anyway, it just switches between audio sources.

Having the flexibility to program the button to stereo mute on/off, audio sources, air recirculation on/of etc is better than having just one choice I guess... |

I used to use that button to cycle through the audio options, but my newest setting, which is much better is pulling up my phone contact list.
The phone button just dials the last person called.

i guess they figured that we have 6 progammable buttons, so we don't need that one on the wheel. althought it would have been nice to have 7!
