BMW vs Mercedes News Article

Read this article on CNN and found in interesting. It talks about BMW vs Mercedes trying to corner the small car market. In doing so, it compares the two auto makers in their strengths and weaknesses.

Then there is another related article on why the world loves German cars.

Germans build a better mouse trap..always have..but it took me going there and working side by side with some to really undertsand why

Their work ethic and attention to detail is unmatched..relentless pursuit of making things better and better.

same could be said about Lexus with better reliability, but they don't have the heritage, branding, etc that German auto makers do.

I feel the Japanese make more reliable cars and the best bang for the buck. They have incredible work ethics and strict guidelines on everything... but the German cars capture the imagination and push the envelope of what can be done with mass production cars. Unfortunately the cutting edge is not always the most reliable or cheap.

The Lexus is a lot of things, but having to occasionally having to drive my wife's Lexus I will say this:

The Lexus is a really nice car for people who don't like to drive.

As to reliability, my now 3 year old M3 has never been to the dealer except for service, and same for my 335 prior to this M3.
