Evolve Tune Review
So after getting crapped on in the straight away by modded stangs last summer at two separate events, I decided that my '09 E92 M3 DCT needed something more than just the K&N filter. So I installed RE pulleys, and MS test pipes. I finally got around to looking into tunes. I did a ton of reading on tunes on this forum, and narrowed my choices down to Evolve, BPM, and GIAC. I picked Evolve because it had the most gains, dyno proven by Evolve, and a local M3 owner. Evolve also was the most aggressive in courting my buisness, beating out BPM's best offer by 16%. Finally only Evolve can tune the vehicle, delete codes, and force monitor readiness.
So I ordered the tune, and it arrived in 2 days from England (Special thanks to Imran, and Mark for making this all happen). I downloaded my entire program with the EvolveR, and e-mailed the file back to evolve. Within 24 hours Evolve e-mailed me the tuned file (High octane, Cat delete, raised rpm, cold start delete). I flashed the vehicle with the new file, but had to wait for my power steering pump to be installed so my car was grounded for a week. Today, after the pump replacement, and a 15 mile drive, I opened up a worm hole in the universe and escaped to Mexico, where I did some triple digit runs to experience the difference. Power WOW! the ferocity after 6,000 rpms is simply uncalled for! As a 335I owner I already experienced going from 275whp to 440whp with FBO+ my cobb race gas tune, so I really wasn't expecting to be wowed. Though the E92 M3 DCT, both stock, and with my mods was surprisingly fast, especially in cold weather, the car with the tune actually scared me!. Smoothness The car now is much smoother at start up, and throughout the rev range. Without the tune, I'm amazed at how chompy the power delivery became with test pipes. A welcome change Sound IMHO the sound of the vehicle with test pipes and stock exhaust is second only to the valvetronic exhausts. With the tune, the sound is more jet engine like. Gone is that nasty growl at start up (which I actually kindda miss, because it used to scare my coworkers ), instead the exhaust now has a burble on up/down shifts. In conclusion, as a guy who has experienced what even a +2-4lbs boost controller can do to the N54, I was very skeptical about the gains for an N/A tune on a bolt-on S65. I needed a tune to help me pass emissions, and pick up maybe a bit more power, and trusted Evolve to provide what I wanted. Boy am I a satisfied customer.

Nice review. Years ago I exchanged with Evolve and was going to go with them before I had the opportunity to tune on site with Velos. Evolve is a quality org. Have you wound it out to 8600? How's the sound over that extra 200 rpm?

I did wind it out completely in 3rd, and 4th to 8,600rpms. There's like extra power up there, and above like 7,800rpms, you feel another kick that builds till 8,600rpms. I really wasn't expecting that, which is why I kindda got scared. I have winter tires on, but 3rd just spun the wheels at that rpm, with TC kicking in, so it was some risky shiznit for sure yesterday. The sound at that rpm is really loud, kindda like the pagani huayra if you've ever heard how that car sounds. It's very similar.

Thanks. How is F/I? I've only been on track at gingerman with an Active Autowerke 6spd. It held up in the heat, and I've been a big fan since. How much boost are you running, and did you change your bearings?

I wanted to test a few things, I started off with a 4.5psi pulley, and have a 6.5psi and 8psi pulley that I will be testing this summer. I have not yet upgraded my bears as I plan on parting out the car in the summer/fall. |

Are you going back to N/A or are you parting out to buy a different car?

Thanks for the insight Killer. I have been trying to decided between BPM, Evolve, and AA.

Glad you're enjoying the Evolve Tune! Like, Richbot, I have about 50,000+ miles on my Evolve Tune for my E90 M3 DCT. I had their Stage 1, Stage 2, and DCT tune.
It's always been 110% spot on! Big gains on the dyno too.
