Black MPE?

Hey guys,

So I'm thinking of going about painting my MPE Matt Black. I currently have some Stove and BBQ heat resistant Matt Black paint. It say's it's resistant to up to 650c.

Does the exhaust get up to these sort of temps? I'll be painting the tips and the back box (for lack of a better word)

Cheers

That might work for street driving if tracking your car prepare for the paint to be burnt off, I have the Akra with factory painted black tips and the inside paint has come off completely

Not sure about the exhaust temps of an M3, but my old E92 diesel could get to 800°C, especially when the particle filter was being regenerated. So with 650°C I'd say you should assume it's not gonna last, unless you rarely drive at high RPMs for a longer period of time (e.g. Autobahn or track).

Diesel is wayyyy diff than gas engine and runs much, much higher EGT.

If OP is talking C. then 650C for the muffler should be fine as it shouldn't even get 600 F.

Thanks for the reply guys!

I don't track my car but I do give it a jolly good hiding round the country lines staying around 5,000+ RPM for about an hour. Good thing is I live in Scotland so it's never really that warm in ambient temps. atm it's 9c lol

Might give it a blast. Worse comes to worse just take it off with 99% ISO Alcohol.

Been there. Done that.

Take it to a proper shop to have it ceramic coated. Paint just won't last.

I used this on my MPE...still looks good after a few years. I think I got it from Home Depot.

Update on this. My ceramic coated exhaust can and tips have held up beautifully. Best $100 I've spent.
