Funny encounter with an F430 last tuesday.

Shortish thread, but informative none the less. So I was giving my car tinters car a once over when my car was finished tinting (He was even nice enough to let me sit in it while he explained the car)

and lo and behold, when I was checking out his tubi exhaust - there it was, plain as day - his car had ORANGE PEEL !!!

Maybe not BMW exclusive?

OMG, paint is supposed to look like that on vehicles.
that's why every car you see has the same "orange peel" as you call it.
sheesh.

I don't know how many cars you have owned but pretty much all new cars manufactured within the past 20 years have orange peel.

That's what I'm getting at. I don't have a problem with it, but it seems people rag on BMW's build quality ad nauseum about it.

As I've said once before, if this fucking forum didn't exist I wouldn't notice I had orange peel, rattles, notchy 1-2 shifts, non-perfect bumpers, pre-delivery swirls, noisy flywheel ...

THIS, I would probably not have noticed most of this but it is nice to know it's normal for the car to have some of those sounds, it wont be perfect, obviously, but it's pretty damn good and in my opinion has outstanding value.

Orange peel paint on cars are intentionally done by manufacturers to help reduce minor visible imperfections in the body panels.

Next time you get a chance, check out the finish on a Bentley. One of the few factory paint jobs without orange peel.

99% of cars have orange peel. Alot of companys dont care about making the clear PERFECT for like 80 extra hours to make it reflect like a mirror... and i wouldnt care if i had a f430 anyways! Its about performanceee

Yeah, long story short he had an (ongoing) run in with cancer and said F it. Very good bloke and I commend his attitudes towards life.

The Bentley painting process is insane! 6 layers of paint and two coats of clear. Between paint and clear coat, the paint gets hand finished. No wonder it comes out looking like a mirror!

Yep, it's as bad as the M3 . Not a big deal to me either. Plus who the heck would be able to match a perfect finish after an accident?

Ferrari's are not good cars to benchmark for stuff like that. Just because they are expensive doesnt mean they are well built.

In fact, that is how you can tell if a car has been poorly repainted, not enough orange peel added back.
