M3 vs. 2014 M6 manual

Ok Gents, got the M6 back today. Rims and control arm replaced. While In the repair shop I had them paint the rims gloss black. IMHO I think they turned out good.

I've only got an hour or so driving it under my belt and still under break-in. Just a few thoughts.

1. Stop trying to drive it like an M3, downshifting, turning knobs and tweaking the flux capacitor. The torque does all the work for you, but the S65 sounds and is still more fun. I kept breaking traction trying to use the revs.

2. So far within break-in rules I'm not real sure it's much faster than my modded M3(everything except S/C). But it's hard to tell as it's bigger.

3. Leave it in M mode with everything in sport mode plus. Feels just right, the others are too soft IMHO. So far no MDM mode as I'm scared of the torque, the car is a torque monster.

4. Steering feel is a little too light but acceptable. M3 does give you a better feel for what your suspension is doing. But again it's a "GT" car. It handles great for a car it's size and weight.

5. Oddly, the manual tranny is MUCH smoother than the M3. Not nearly as notchy. Smooth, pleasant and inspires confidence. I wonder if it's a new unit they just designed?

6. Engine sound needs work, my understanding is the turbo's are sucking up all that AWESOME V8 SOUND. I took it to a muffler shop and had the resonators removed. Sounds much better. Cheap first mod, $120.00 bucks. Will think about downpipes and exhaust of course. Doing RPI ram air intake next week.

7. Ever so comfortable and luxurious inside. Supple seats and leather everywhere. THAT really helps the car and dissuade any sense of regret.

8. It does convey a serious street presence, especially with Singapore grey/black wheels. The Sakir orange interior "pops" well with the grey. I talk about the interior as the M4 I hope offers some flexible options. This is the only area where the E92 lags so badly IMHO. Thanks Bangle.

9. I'm glad I have the 19 inch rims, I know 20 and above are popular but sidewall helps with bad roads, and aren't they overall lighter??

As I wrote I can't really push the car too much till after break-in. But, it does drive better than a 4300 pound car should. More later. Thanks for reading.

P.S.
If an E92 M3 and F12 M6 had a conversation it would go like this. M3 to M6 "Yes, yes, your very high tech and fancy. I'll call you Mr fancy pants. BLOW ME". :_)

Give number 2 on your list some more consideration. I have a fbo m3 and have driven an m6, and the m6 would smoke my car very badly.

That said, good review and love the m3 and your m6!

Good looking M6, pretty much the same combo as my Sparkling Graphite with Fox red, mine is also manual!

Thanks Gents, the best so far is the much smoother shifting transmission. Not so notchy like the M3 or Z4M. Maybe BMW listened on that matter. S65 still is unbeat IMHO. All we needed was the S65 in the 4.4L configuration in the new M4! GRRR.

Why is your interior so shiny and greasy? It looks like someone went over it with armor all. Other than that I love the look of the new m6, if only it wasn't so big.

Looks great. Saw one the other day in person and it was fantastic.

Next time on the interior switch to a matte cleaner like vinylex and lexol leather cleaner & conditioner.

I actually thought it looked like plastic....almost like the interior of a scale model car.

I'm sure it's just the picture with flash! Cool car tho!

I really hope it's just the camera. But if not, anything other than warm water will ruin the leather. It's only a matter of time before that stuff is completely soaked in and then the leather is permanently damaged with that "shiny/"slipperly" look. Most people don't understand that leather is "alive".

OP, if you did put some product on there, please please please wash that stuff off now with warm/hot water and wipe with a dry microfiber. Repeat like 10 times.

Having ridden in a fully broken in M5, I can almost assure you that the power will astonish you. The motor is an ANIMAL. Congrats
