Why play with fire? I followed break-in on my E46 ///M, but let her rip the moment I completed the initial service. Philosophies differ with regards to break-in however.

Following it, but it's damn hard to do so. I try to shift at 4 actually and my average mpg is 17.8 right now with 1k miles.

Went over to approx 6500 and only once or twice. Other than that have followed break in procedures carefully. NO oil consumption before or after my first service.

I´m using for now D2 and its ok regarding gear changes around 4k rpm.
When i tryed usind S2 or S3 i´m not used to use it in manual mode and did some mistakes on the gear changes. Other than that i followed the break in recomendation. NO oil consumption also. Best Regards, Maika

I don't understand the validity of this poll and how it can help someone.

I would have preferred the Poll to have ranges like:
1-2 3-5 6-9 10+ I accidentally went over a handful of times by accident but not to redline and no WOT. No oil consumption |

I went over maybe 2-3 times on accident, but only to ~6000 or so. Except one time in the wet I spun and it jumped to ~7000. She's running like a champ with 4500 miles now.

Thing is what i want to know is it better to drive the car in with city driving, as the engine speed is varying than a long distance run?

I don't disagree, but I'm not sure your comment has added much value to this thread, either. People need to chill out on this board. Not everyone is as cool as you are, and you'll be happier once you accept that. (This isn't aimed at you individually, but it's the end of a long week and your post hit a nerve.) There is nothing that takes less effort than not posting a message in a thread you deem to be useless. I do it all of the time. <End of rant>

Nah. From a cold start redline is at around 7k and slowly creeps to 8.4k when the car warms up.
