There are so many great features about this car that you are unlikely to discover organically, which is why I always read the manual (and Supplement for this car) and encourage others to do the same. In fact for my last 3 cars I had read the manual before taking delivery so I would know everything right out of the gate and could get on with the driving part.

And yes the ignition slot is there so you can use a Comfort Access fob that has a dead battery since those do NOT recharge in the slot. The manual lays that latter fact out quite clearly.

Lol....

-You have CA if your door handles have raised stripes on the top surfaces. The car can be locked/unlocked and started without the key leaving your pocket. The key's battery is not rechargable.
-Non CA cars must be started with the key in the slot. HOWEVER, they can be restarted if the engine is turned off and the key is removed BUT the doors are not yet opened; if it's been less than ~10s since the key was removed. The key's battery is recharged whilst in the ignition slot.

I still get some many Mini and BMW owners who insists that the fob slot charges the battery.

It does, if the fob is NOT a Comfort Access version.

101 M3...OP do you have an owners manual.

For the first 6 months I swore that M3 didn't have battery!!!!! And I was always looking for the hookers!!!

Have you deal with the fav buttons yet?

Try touching the CA on the door lock for 3+ sec and see what it does!!!!

Good luck. Everyone of us has been there, then you become obsessed and then you be one a Bimnerd!!!!

What's wrong with you? I haven't seen a single useful reply from you.

To OP, enjoy the car, if I were you, I would read the owner manual. I remember when I bought my car, I read it a few times and still didn't know everything.
