Helmet Mounted GoPro

For the guys that helmet mount their GoPro's...have you found one side to be better than the other? I'm leaning towards the driver's side, but i don't really have any basis for that other than the passenger side of my helmet already has all my headset cords...

I would say passenger side as the driver side will have it out towards A pillar and not good view.

Yeah, that was my concern too. But there's so much crap jammed into a tiny (E30) cabin that a helmet mount is a good option for now. Getting a view that doesn't look at the back of the seats, right side net, etc isn't easy.

Definitely passenger side.
But I agree with ortho281 that is produces results that are a little motion-sickness inducing. I have since switched to a tow-hook mount.

Yes. You need BMW Apps (6NR). Then when you launch the GoPro App on the iPhone (connected through USB to the car) the interface is transferred to the idrive. This video was done with a GoPro Hero 3+ but with the new 4 I now also get preview transferred to the idrive screen. Extremely convenient.

Would not mount a go pro to a helmet. A sharp'ish' object next to my skull in a crash might not be the best.

There are so many other potential mount points in car. Albeit without same flexibility.

Guess someday helmets will be certified with some sort of mount.

Just sayin'....

OP:

I'm assuming you're running stock seats?

You might try one of these RAM mounts, to put a mount ball on the inside headrest support rod on either the driver or passenger seat: http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-U-Bo...ords=RAM+mount

Then a long RAM mount arm, a ball connector, and a medium RAM mount arm (plus a RAM mount ball for your GoPro) will give you a solid, very adjustable camera position.

If you're at Summit for the Oct. 17/18 weekend festivities, swing by the Shenandoah paddock, find my gold E21, and I'll show you mine.
