anyone who done evolve by yourself could share some experience

i have my akra exhaust on my car today, i know the CEL will pop up soon, im planning to do the tune myself, ppl saying i will need a battery charger when im reading and writing the ecu program, then i got the problem, since i never use a battery charger before, i dont know what it suppose to do. i thought it will be like i charge the battery charger first, then use it on the car. but the one i just bought is like a power transformer, i cant charge it. is that i bought a wrong stuff, or this is just the one i will need? also, for the battery charger using, i dont know to to connect to the battery in car's trunk. i found positive which is under a red plastic cover, but i couldnt find the negative spot. and should connect it with positive to positive? or positive to negative, and negative to positive? is there anyone have a pic about battery charger connect to the battery that i can take a look to make my process much easier.

btw, tips about installation is very welcomed?

I did mine without a battery charger and it was fine. Just go drive around for an hour, to charge your battery, then proceed on

The negative post is under the hood by the passenger side wheel well. The 140 software in my 2010 took ~5 minutes to read data only & ~3 minutes to load the new tune. Believe the time it takes depends on your current ECU software version.

Battery charger should be fine. "The Schumacher SSC-1000A Ship 'N' Shore SpeedCharge Charger is a versitile, fast and efficient 12-volt battery charger/maintainer suitable for use with a variety of lead-acid battery types used in everything from tractors, motorcycles, jetskiis and snowmobiles, to those found in cars, trucks and SUVs. It features fully automatic microprocessor control; automatic multi-stage charging allowing for ease of use; three charge rates: 2-amp, 6-amp and 10-amp; and the ability to choose the type of battery being charged. Addtiional features include a built-in voltage tester, a desulphation mode, a retractable handle and clamp/cable stowage compartment. "

Here's what I have done twice and it worked without any problems.

1) Idle the car for several minutes, turn off radio, AC, headlights, angel eyes, etc. You can drive around for a few minutes to make sure battery is charged.

2) Extract data which took maybe 30-45minutes. I did not use any battery trickle charger.

3) Emailed data file to Evolve

4) Downloaded new tune and flashed car. It took exactly 5 minutes to flash and I have the latest 220E firmware. Your battery should not die within a short 5 minute span.

5) Wait 10 seconds then start car! Enjoy the tune!

I did not use any battery charger because I know my battery is in good condition and it's a fairly fast and incredibly simple process.

thank you for your help this morning, and for the ball bearing in the steering wheel, if the one who did it for me just lose it, or broke it, could they repair it or they need to order that part for me?

See here for the detailed instructions on the paddles. I'm not sure if you can order a replacement ball bearing from BMW...if they lost it.
