Scratch on your new ride from the dealer

Got a quick question for you guys.
Picked up my 2012 X5M
Sapphire Metallic Black

Notice about a 3 inch scratch on the front bumper, the dealer covered it with touch up paint, but honestly looks pretty crappy.

I contacted the dealer about having them respray the bumper, they seem receptive, but I am worried that they might not match the paint perfectly.

Would you leave the 3 inch scratch with touch up paint, or have them repaint....

I would repaint, personally. BSM shouldn't be too hard to match. I'm assuming you picked this up new...if so, the car should be perfect when you pick it up.

If it looks off make them do it again until its right. You just shelled out a 100k I'm guessing.... It should be right from the start

Take it up with BMW NA. You just spent a good chunk of money on that thing. They better give it to you properly.

Ah.....which shitty Long Island dealer did this? My guess would be Habberstad. I think they fuck more cars up than anywhere else.

No brainer with this...make fix it until right. Totally unacceptable on a new vehicle.

Accidents happen. As long as the dealer is owning up and agrees to fix it right, I wouldn't worry and you'll never notice.

I would definitely have the dealer repaint the bumper.

Since you live in Long Island, tell the dealer you want the repaint to be done at MAC. Search the forum about them if you are not familiar with their work.

Sounds like the dealer is being receptive to your request which is about all they can do. The VPC that all cars come through respray and paint panels all the time secondary to damage in transport so its not a huge deal to get a color match. Very worst you could ask to have the job done at the VPC and have them ship it there or drop it off yourself as I believe you are not too far from the one on the east?

Just be sure to have them accept responsibility for any diminished value when selling or trading the vehicle. If it is on plastic, I don't think many of the paint thickness gauges work, but there could be other signs. And you just have to accept that dealers will be bastards when you trade the car.
If you lease, this is irrelevant......

As always, appreciate the advice.
The dealer has been good to me, I am sure they will handle it right.

Have them repaint it, it's metallic black.. the color will match. Trust me.

If you have any further questions about paintwork, shoot me a pm.

Best of luck.

MAC is so overrated it's silly.

You paid for a brand new car. BRAND NEW. that means new motor, drivetrain and body. If ur body has a scratch, tell them to either replace the bumper or have it professionally repainted. No ifs ands or buts. And don't ask for a compensation. You are getting what u paid for nothing more and nothing less.
