49,100 miles on the clock.

As the title suggests I have now racked up 49,100 on my 2008 E92. I plan on keeping it for a while but don't think I will fork out fork the extended warranty thing. What I'm wondering is should i take it to the dealership for a look over or something before i hit 50k? No service is actually due, but do the dealerships usually do one last oil change or something for good measure?? Any ideas advice, any known problems to look out for??? Thanks.

If your dealership is cool they'll do a once-over inspection just to check if there is anything that could be replaced before you run out of warranty...maybe even a free oil change or something.

Just call and ask!

And this is just me, but I would get the extended warranty for sure.

They have been cool so far, no complaints. Will give them a call Monday.

Is there a specific reason why you would get the extended warranty, like known problems to expect or something? I know there are about a million warranty threads on here but all that they seem to contain are peoples individual opinions. And opinions are like assholes, every one has one. :-)

We'll lets just say something, even something small goes wrong with your engine/accessories. A/C system, water pump, alternator, hell even bearings if you're unlucky. Although not common, things like these do break every now and then. Even small things cost a lot to repair, because these cars are so complicated. 2 or 3 of these small problems and your warranty has basically paid off.

Thanks man, will have a look over it. Any idea if they do finance deals on the warranty's or is it usually just cash up front?

I would say it all depends on issues you have had in the past or even if you were the second owner. If you are the original owner and have never had issues I may not spend that money. It also depends on how much you drive the car. I only do 6k a year so probably not worth it for me as when mine expires I still have a new car.

It really boils down to you.

GL OP!

I do about 10k a year in it, havent tracked it yet and probably wont much. Second owner and no problems that i am aware of so far. That is my main dilemma, should i expect problems at 50,100 miles?? :-)

If are thinking about taking your car to the outer edges of its performance envelope, then the extended warranty is probably a good idea.
Since you are the second owner, in your decision making you might also want to consider how many miles the previous owner put on it.

My understanding is that you can't get the BMW extended warranty if you aren't the original owner.

so on a related note - im sure people here have some high mileage E9X M3s - any advice? My car hit 42K recently and I duno why i feel like one of those people that are scared of a high mileage car. I dumped my 335i at 67k miles even tho it was CPO warranty til 100k.

My M3 has the CPO warranty as well - dont care much for the maintenance warranty. Unless they cover tires I dont think its worth it (which they dont!)

I want to keep this car forever lol. I love to drive it everyday and my daily is collecting dust in my driveway - but i hate seeing the miles go up so quick. I bought it in July with 30K miles and have hit 42k in less than 6 months.

My previous car, a 2003 E46 M3, tried to swallow metal from a broken pin in the VANOS assembly (thankfully the attempt was unsuccessful). Replacing the VANOS cost me almost $4K out of pocket. Had it swallowed metal.... <gulp> Needless to say, I'm getting the extended warranty on the E92 M3.

He's right! I just hit 52,000 and was just informed my rear left tire needed air again, slow leak since summer. My engine oil is low, "add I qt asap" is the error message. And finally my wiper is low! Son of a bitch! They get ya every time!

Otherwise that is the the extent of my M3's needs so far. I am "Riding BareBack" so I's takes my chances!
