How does BMW do it?

The 135i will weigh 3440 lbs. How the hell does BMW manage to squeeze that much weight into a car of that size? Is the frame made of ununoctium or something? Maybe I will get a Cayman after all.

The G weight 200 extra lbs and feels like a Coke can, so...
So, I am not sure why is there a problem with the BMW weight...

That's the European weight that includes driver weight and 90% of the fuel tank being full.

I think the actual weight of the vehicle will be closer to 3250-3300lbs.

I actually read that after I posted this. That makes a lot more sense. 3440 pounds for a car that much smaller than the 335i seemed a little odd to me. What do US weights include? Is it an empty tank and no one inside?

It's confusing to me as well. Sure it's a bigish engine and BMW brakes/suspension weighs a lot, but it's the size of a Focus/Mazda 3 isn't it? They weigh like 26xx pounds. So more weight for engine and drivetrain (gotta get that power to the back) and the chassis a bit. Surely that can't be 800 pounds?

all the seat motors, sound deadening, safety gear, big and plentiful speakers

luxury features pretty much all weigh something.....

the 1 also goes back to steel suspension compared to aluminum in the E9X cars

Odd? Weight difference looks reasonable based on these figures:

335i (coupe)
Length × Width × Height in: 180.6 × 70.2 × 54.1
Weight lb (kg): 3571 (1621)

135i
Length × Width × Height in: 171.7 × 68.8 × 55.4
Weight lb (kg): 3438 (1560)

Cayman S
Length × Width × Height in: 172.1 × 70.9 × 51.4
Weight lb (kg): 2954 (1340)

So you'd need about 25 more HP on the 135i to have same weight to HP as Cayman S, and 38 more on the 335i.

US "Curb" weight is the car with full tank of fuel and all fluids at normal levels but does not include any passengers.
