Chunk out of sidewall....replace it?
I recently noticed a chunk out of the sidewall of my tire (rear) after i knicked a curb. Does this tire need to be replaced, and can you just replace a single tire? My current tires only have 5,000 miles on them. I'm selling the car, and the buyer wants it replaced, but i already have the car priced low....the tire will probably cost me another $500.

DAAAAMN.....well if the buyer wants it replaced you really don't have a choice...and I don't think it will cost you $500....try to pick up a used PS2 (assuming that's what's on the wheel)

if that was caused by a simple curb rash then there's no safety issue. But if the buyer wants that replaced he should be paying for it. You should be selling the car AS IS.

if the buyer wants it replace, i guess you dont have much of a choice. unless youre willing to lose this buyer. look on craigslist for a used tire although not many people sell used tires in m3 sizes very often. the forum might have some for sale in the classifieds section as well.
if you were planning to keep the car then i dont think you need to get it replaced. downs look that severe to me. doesnt seem like it affected the belts underneath.

I would want the tire replaced if it were my car. That is a pretty nasty gouge. 95% of the time, with conservative street driving, it probably wouldn't cause a failure. But if you're running fast or hard, your odds get worse. Don't pay $500 for it, if you're anywhere in the U.S. I can get it to you for under $400.
Who pays for the tire is 100% between you and the buyer. There are all types of ways to work that out between you. If you think the price is fair with damaged tire included, you can offer the car at a slightly higher price to cover some of your replacement cost.
