Looking for detailed diagrams and or Pics of GT4 Interior
Hi everyone,
I am looking for detailed diagrams or detailed interior pics of the e92m3 GT4 Interior. Trying to determine how their cage is built and design specifics. Tried a search and all I could find is this: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...0&postcount=10 Thanks to 'ridzhao' And some dash and steering wheel column pics online Thanks ahead for any help |

I'm planning to have a cage built to mine as well, looking to get it done when I drop her off at a reputable shop in NJ sometime next month.

RRT?? Unfortunately, I'm kinda looking at doin something custom, because of the lack of race shops out here. But - what have they suggested? Have they built an e92 race car before? maybe we can compare notes? BTW, You guys back east have some serious race shops (envy ) Out here on the west coast = its all blingy posers with 20" wheels and bolt-on experience |

Mastek, you might want to call TMS. Will Turner is a very approachable guy. They did a E92 M3 track build recently, and posted many detailed interior pics on their website. I don't know if they are still up, but the pics were posted in this forum as well. I see that car often at NASA events on and off the track, and chat with its owner every now and then. I believe he is racing it in GTS4.

I've spoken to Will before -- and your right, he is very approachable. But my problem is local West Coast race shops -- I'm not willing to ship so - basically I'm doing it on my own with some local shops. If you can -- I would love to get in touch with the owner -- and I have a request into Turner already. All I really NEED is detailed pics of the cage work of a BMW Motorsport GT4 or GT2 so I can do some good copy work. Thanks |

Hey man are you stripping your car to be a race car? If so, what series are you going to compete in? Do understand that each sanctioning body has their own rules as well.

The 1st step being to get a cage that will keep me safe and keep the weight down (the weight being my biggest enemy right now). Once I do that -- I will start with NASA and see what else is available. We have a really fast e36m3 with an S54 running in NASA right now -- but we would like a 2-car team -- and the newest platform would be a great companion. |

It's actually a shop own by my friend's family who specializes in setting up Pro-Stock funny cars' chassis and also Club Sport setup. It will be designed from scratch, made from chromoly, and every joint welded into the car's chassis.

make sure to weigh the car before and after and try to keep the weight down (chromoly sounds heavy) i was shocked when i saw up close... how thin the cage pipes are in the factory e92 GT2 car ... and how litlle cage there was .... but this was before the 1st ALMS campaign, so maybe Rahal/Letterman adds to that (as most race shops do to factory race chassis). take some pics ... and keep us updated on ur progress |

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/imag...ild/index.html No engineering drawings, but lots of detailed pics. Not sure what they based their cage work on. They would most likely share the material specs with you. I will ping a few NASA folks to see if anyone might have contact info of the owner--I don't. Good luck with your build.

Have you called GMG or Evosport?
Brad posted a couple cars (E36 and E46) on 6-speed that they did cage work on about a year ago.

Evosport = I've had some fail w them in the past for e46 stuff I am gonna go at this alone (IF I do) .. so getting diagrams and pics is crucial hmmm - if only someone in SoCal had a GT4 |

Chromoly is heavy, but that's what the pro's use, on the other hand, you want a cage/roll bar that's strong to hold the car's weight when it's upside down. At the end, the finish piece would weight less or equal to the backseat of the car. Don't worry, my friend's shop has all the right tools to get this perfectly done. I will post pictures after my trip to Hong Kong, since I'll be dropping it off when I leave.

Ya - they did some minor service on one ...the owner actually imported it.
It's fairly easy actually. You buy one in europe and put it in a container - and u can never register it for street in US ...by the time your done your out $160k Here in the US = you can buy a used M3 for $45k And build a race car with better parts that will spank a GT4 (closer to a GT2) for another $45k And still have $70k left over Last edited by mastek; 09-08-2010 at 02:26 AM.. |
