West Fort Worth Drive- Lone Star BMW CCA Saturday 03/27/2010

Just a reminder that we have a 'west of Ft Worth' tour this Saturday!

We'll congregate at the Applebee's
parking lot on Hwy 67 in Cleburne at 9 am for driver check-in and a 2 minute discussion about 'touring protocol'!
I am NOT a standup comedian but I promise to do my best to keep it short and sweet.
Breakfast will be ~ 10am at Mary's on the Brazos in Tin Top with a 'spirited' drive westward ending up in Strawn at Mary's Cafe for a late lunch.
I understand the Chicken Fried steak at Mary's in Strawn should be on everyone's Bucket List!

More Info

There's a bit more detail here: http://www.lscbmwcca.org/forum/Topic10127-4-1.aspx.

The Cleburne Applebee's is just west of the intersection of Hwy 67 and North Main St (174) in front of the Home Depot.

hmmm...

Who else is thinking about going to this?

Is it suppose to be a really fun, spirited drive?

Or is it just a 'tour'?

I'll Post Stuff About How it Works in the AM

Sorry, it's past my bedtime. I sent Nawaaz info on how the BMWCCA drives work a couple of weeks ago; so, he has some insight.

How It Works

The BMW CCA drives are paced not to attract unwanted attention, but still have fun. You don't want to scare/annoy the locals (everyone has cell phones these days). So, you cool it in the towns and when you are on main (heavily patrolled) roads. On lightly traveled back roads, the pace is entertaining but safe as a crash pretty much ruins the fun. Speeds vary considerably. As an example, the leader, who typically runs 1/8th to a 1/4th mile ahead of the group can be traveling 80 to 85 mph, but the guys towards the back of the group have to go 100 mph + at times to catch up. I know it seems weird, but that's the way it works. If you want to go really fast and slide your car around, this isn't the thing for you. The club regulars use CB's to communicate between cars. If you have one bring it.

Here some key rules:
* If the tour leader gets a ticket, everyone helps to pay for it.
* If one person gets pulled over by a cop, everyone else should go on ahead and stop and wait in the next town or at a convenient place a few miles ahead.
* If the guy behind you doesn't have a CB, you are responsible to keep in visual contact with him. That way no one gets left behind.
* You and any passengers will have to sign a release to participate.

If you want to do it, look at this link: http://www.lscbmwcca.org/forum/Topic10127-4-1.aspx . The thing to be sure and read is the "IMPORTANT DETAILS FOR BOTH TOURS!" section. You need to send Marc Leediker (the drive leader) an email letting him know you plan to participate; so that he has an idea how many people will be showing up. It's possible that Marc will need to limit attendance.

Thanks for the info, Cal.

I'm planning on emailing Marc very soon.....But before I do, I need a head count of how many guys are interested in going for this drive.

So far, I've got Blake, Soorena, and myself.

Anyone else?

I think that's a good idea.

I guess if a few folks are interested, we can go for this Saturday's drive, as well.

What do you say, Dev?

You guys should definitely attend this drive. I think if more of these drives coincide with our meets, we should make them a part of our meets

I'm assuming the website link that Cal provided is the area to check for updates on future drives.
