Harriman State Park, Bear Mountain, West Point Cruise Sat 4/18
Anyone down for a little cruise next Saturday if the weather is decent? I was thinking meeting down by Rt. 17 and I-84 and taking 7 Lakes drive through Harriman and then through Bear Mountain. After the traffic circle we could take a slow roll through West Point and then go up over Storm King. There we could do lunch in Cornwall before going back either the same way or varying it up a bit.
Below is a very rough and very poor sketch of the tentative route. |

I actually pulled it off Google Earth and then put the route in uisng Paint. I used an old version of Earth and really need to update, as I am pretty sure the newer versions have more detailed roads and you can actaully plan routes along or off them. I thought of it after failing to figure out how to stick a google map on the last thread when I was trying to pinpoint that nice spot along 218.

I keep hearing about bear mountain and this may be a good opportunity to check it out. Hows the drive?

It's a great drive - good combination of aesthetics and being able to push the car a bit. Plus if you add West Point you get some historic beauty as well.

Sorry, I actually wound up just doing it today since there seemd to be a lack of interest. If you or anyone else does it and wants some company for the West Point and 218 portion for a few minutes in the late (I need to stress late, as after the ride I did the car show and then a late dinner with friends leading up to a very late drive back upstate) let me know. PM me with # I will check this when I get up

Once my car gets to the east coast, I am definitely going to ride up your way one weekend for a meet. Those are my old stomping grounds, and there are so many great roads up there.

Obviously not happening today but I already know many cruises in these parts are already planned for the future. I did some recon and all the roads are open in both Bear Mountain and Harriman and most are in good shape, in fact many are Deutschfahrt shape (over there even single lane country roads are in mint condition 365 days of the year).
