Camera Help - Reasonable Price + Best Camera = next purchase?

What are some recommendations out there? I'm kind of in the market for a new camera. I need a SLR or something in that caliber of picture quality and shutter speed/frame rate?

I'm really completely newb when it comes to this so I just know these are the caliber of cameras needed to shoot high quality pictures! More so the lens is more important? But I'm sure with a half way decent lens and body without breaking bank...I can see substantial upgrades from my 10mp point and shoot for around 400-600$

What's your guys input?

The Canon Rebel T3 and the Nikon D3000 are the only in that price-range (if you consider only cameras from the "big 2"). A $600 max budget really narrows things down a bit for you. You'll get a decent dSLR you can use to learn photography skills, but you might find yourself quickly outgrowing its capabilities.

Might want to get refurbs or used from b&h or adorama...canon is having a rebate now on body and lens combo. T2i maybe...it's older but have almost the same specs as the t3i, except for the swivel screen. T3, just a 720p video instead of 1080p that's on the t3i.

Like everyone else said, you do limit yourself when you max out your budget at $600. Try older bodies, deadstocks like the xs or the xsi and pair it with a nifty fifty. That combo should put you at $400-500

WHS. Try to find an older body..possibly even used, and pair it with a 50mm. The 50 takes really sharp pictures, and can be had under $100.

I would go used, I wouldn't buy an xsi at that price new if I were paid to.

It's a great camera. But not for 500 new. At that price i would just move into the T3 so I at least had some more modern teck to play with.

For the price you're looking for, troll creigslist and see if you can find a nice used one. Even a 20D or 3D, however, they will have a slightly higher learning curve for you as well as get closer to maxing out your budget. So it depends what you're looking for.

Also, be prepared, just because you have the camera, you still have to budget in stuff like camera bag and memory cards. It adds up quickly.

This is a good point, I have a professional photographer friend who uses the Sony NEX-5 as his toy camera, but does his professional shots with a DSLR. He says there isn't much between them as far as quality of images go.

exactly. and it will have all the things you are able to use at your disposal. at your skill level, you cannot take advantage of the offerings DSLRs bring anyways.
