San Diego shop / mechanic needed. Potentially major engine problem.
Anyone know of a good, knowledgeable shop I can take my car to anywhere in San Diego? I don't think she'll make it to any of the more well-known Los Angeles shops without getting towed.
The issue I'm having: Bad engine knocking.

Honestly, i wouldn't recommend driving it at all. HG Motorsports is a good shop but I don't think they're very familiar with the s65 platforms. I even spoke to one of the sales advisors that work there during a cars and coffee and asked about rod bearing service and he pointed me to MRF Engineering. Regarding good shops in San Diego, I know another member on here posted that Independent Motorcars in Miramar Rd is where he brings his m3. I personally would just fork up the tow expense and bring it to MRF. Good luck

There's a few shops I take my m3 to here but with an issue like yours I'd recommend going to someone who knows the s65 really well. The only shop I would take it to is MRF engineering in Lake Forest. Worth the drive/tow up, he's a genius with the s65.

They won't let you tow right away. Have a waiting period. Hopefully you know someone with a high level aaa membership and have them initiate the tow for you.

Check out this place. I've taken my car there, and they were pretty good.

I once got my car towed 100miles with AAA because my cousin was a member and with me at the time. I don't know if they still do that.

I can't find anyone I know with a AAA Plus membership. Looks like it's going to cost a lot of money to tow it since my roadside only covers 20 miles of the 101 miles needed.
I'm going to have to get something figured out. |

What about just towing it there yourself. You can certainly rent a car trailer and even a pickup truck if you need for cheaper than quotes you are getting. Just need a winch to pull the car up.

I'm thinking the U-Haul and trailer is looking like a good idea. If it's significantly cheaper than $350, I'll probably take that route. But if it's close to that, I'll just pay that 350 and all it a day. |
