First Pics - BMW M3 GT4 Customer Race Car

My contact at BMW Motorsport just emailed me these. Cost is about $120K Euros. I NEED Enjoy....

Quote:
BMW M3 GT4 celebrates 24-hour premiere at the Nürburgring.

Munich, 8th April 2009. The BMW works drivers Augusto Farfus (BR),
Jörg Müller (DE) and Andy Priaulx (GB) will line up at the 24-hour race
on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife on 23rd/24th May 2009. This will also
mark the debut of the BMW M3 GT4 at this legendary endurance race.

Müller and Priaulx will be behind the wheel of the BMW M3 GT4 when
they race for Schubert Motorsport in the Eifel region. The two drivers,
who are normally involved in a battle for glory for BMW in the FIA World
Touring Car Championship (WTCC), will join forces with motor racing
journalists Marcus Schurig (DE) and Jochen Übler (DE). The editors of
the specialist “sport auto” magazine in Germany have many years of
racing experience behind them, and have entered the “Green Hell”
numerous times in the past. Together with tyre partner Dunlop, this
quartet of drivers has its sights set on a top position in the SP10 class.

BMW Motorsport Director, Mario Theissen, says: “Although we will not
be represented by a works team at this year’s 24-hour race, our
Customer Racing programme ensures that our fans will still see plenty of
BMW racing cars and BMW works drivers. We will be particularly
interested in how the new BMW M3 GT4 performs, which is fielded by
Schubert Motorsport in cooperation with ‘sport auto’. Jörg Müller and
Andy Priaulx are two former overall winners in the Eifel. Spectators can
certainly look forward to an exciting weekend.”

The BMW M3 GT4, the youngest addition to the Customer Racing
product range offered by the BMW Motorsport Distribution division,
made its debut on the legendary Nordschleife in front of many BMW fans
at last weekend’s 56th ADAC Westfalenfahrt. After four hours, Müller and
Übler were victorious in the SP10 class, and finished 30th overall.

The Nordschleife at the Nürburgring has played a very special role in the
history of BMW. BMW drivers have enjoyed countless successes there
since the first 24-hour race was held in 1970. Last year alone, one third
of the 150 cars that completed the 24-hour race were BMW made. With
114 class victories, BMW is by far the most successful manufacturer in
the history of the event.

To date, the marque has 18 overall victories to its name, and has even
achieved a one-two on eight occasions. Most recently, the BMW M3 GTR
enjoyed double success in 2004 and 2005. Jörg Müller was a member of
the winning team back in 2004, while Priaulx was triumphant in 2005.

Unfortunately you will probably need to buy the whole car to get those.... Most race teams that buy this car will swap out these componenets in favor for their sponsors (unless class rules prohibit that)....so you may be able to get your hands on them that way.

Also interested in the flight case for my engine so I can take it with me on trips. But the airlines might charge me an oversized baggage fee.

Should be in the 1300kg range. Anyway, GT4 regulation requires a minimum weight of 3.4 kg per PS.

Best regards, south

Very nice. I wonder if it will be offered in the US as well? (Not that I have plans to buy one). I also wonder if it can be licensed for street use?

See how much it costs you to build a car from a body in white and you will know it is not a bad deal for a turnkey car, that will probally work right out of the box.

It's a factory purpose-built race car. You are mostly paying for the chasis and the R&D that went into the car as well as the security knowing that this comes direct from BMW M and not some mom-n-pop race shop. This equates to better reliabilty and support from BMW. There are bound to be some special engine parts available as time goes on as well. I agree that you could build a great racer with the same money but you will have reliability issues not to mention it will be a PIA. I built an e46 M3 racer from a salvage vehicle. It was a long dirty priocess. Cost came close to what this car is and it wasn't nearly as trick in the chasis dept. For the extra $ I'd go with this and be done with it.

The order form I have states it is not applicable in the US. I believe this only refers to the form though. I am sure you could get one over here provided you could find a series to race it in its current configuration.

Licensed for street use??? umm...no. Why would you want to anyway? It would not be fun to drive on public roads.
