Unhappy M3 meet guard rail

So Ill save too many of the details, and this definitely isn't as bad as the guys car who was keyed (that sucks), but pretty disappointing today. I was driving on 74 towards Franklin NC, for those of you who know the area, during a torrential downpour. Its been a while since its rained in Asheville and surrounding and I could feel the M pretty loose on the road, so I turned the M off and went from 60 (speed limit) to 45 thinking about how bad it would suck to run into the guard rail.

Low and behold - M meet guard rail...

Car is at Hendrick Collision so I could ensure OEM parts and color, and waiting to hear on an estimate. I was talking to the two truck guy on the 3 hour drive back to Charlotte and we both concurred we see this as 10K+ in damages which hurts my soul.

My main concern is frame (somewhat unlikely, I just hope its not), and suspension damage as the alignment was not great post accident (but drivable) . Any thoughts, recommendations? This kills me because this is the car I have wanted for 12 years, except it started with e36 Carbon Black 4 door, and I ended up getting this 12 years later. Im dealing pretty well with this, it is just a car and insurance will cover a lot. I am appreciative I wasn't hurt and very glad I did listen to my instinct and slow down, just obviously not enough.

Oh and it "seems" that damage is limited to

headlight
front bumper
fender
rear quarter panel
back bumper
both passenger rims pretty badly
and a bunch of stuff under that corner

I am sure there will be more...

Ouch! Not nice to see.

But don't worry, she'll get all fixed up in no time.

So sorry to hear. Hope it ends well. On the plus side, no one was injured, correct? I'm sure a good body shop can make the car good as new. Best of luck.

Good question...was wondering also. I have just put new PSS on the rear of mine at 25k replacing the PS2s, and am getting a pair of PSS on the front tomorrow.

Tires are not optimal but pass inspection. I was going to get new tires this week before they really needed them because I really wanted any excuse to replace the continentals with the PSS and I drive so much.

You are all very right, I am OK and the car will be fixed. Insurance will take care of it, its why I pay for it!

It just seems like its going to be really expensive for what "appears" to be not a lot of damage...

glad you are ok! the car can be replaced.

And rain is no joke, my sister's good friend was driving another on the way to their high school this morning and their car ended up flipping (sister wasn't with them) and fortunately both are ok.

What really sucks is that I consciously slowed down and was attempting to be responsible. Due to the fact I drive an M3 everyones assumptions are that we drive our cars like we are on a track all of the time, whereas I dont think I have been more responsible with any car because I love the M so much.

The other question is if I was texting. What really happened? 10 & 2 running 15 miles under the speed limit. Oh well.

Its been too dry recently - way too much oil on the roads and it got the best of more than a few it sounds like. Glad your friends are alright as well.

Doesn't look too bad, could have been worse I guess. Good news is that if you want to, you can upgrade your car with Euro bumpers and ZCP's? That's what I would do. All the best.

Ouch, that sucks. Glad you're ok. Cars can be fixed and yes it does suck when that happens. Look on the bright side, time for a euro bumper

Main thing is you are okay, the rest will be looked after ... a few years down the road you forget all about it.

You did well to slow down it could have been worse.

Good luck with the repair, hope the frame is not bend. Keep us informed once you got her all done.

Glad to hear no injury.

Best of luck with repairs!

If I were you, I would try to get a Euro bumper as a replacement.

sad to see, but I'm glad you're ok...the damage isn't too bad and no one else got hurt. Keep your chin up, you did everything you could by the sound of it.

Definitely going to go Euro if I can, thats the preference for sure. The vorsteiner GTS3 looks to be a good option for the price, given the OEM bumper is goign to be $$$. Just have to see how hendrick and the statefarm adjuster compare.

Sticking with the OEM 19's and not ZCP. While I thought about going ZCP in the past, something about the OEM 19's has me... I compared mine to one with the ZCP on them (he works in my building) for a few weeks when I first got her, and it took me a long time to decide I like the ones I have better... I would roll with either though!

Did the car hydroplane? What caused you to hit the guardrail?

Glad you're OK.
