The 1 Series Demographic

Okay, my opinions on the 1 series, are that this car is not meant for the middle aged crowd (like the 335i), but have a more "younger" impact. I think that this car is aimed toward a young driver to someone in their early 30's. Look at the car...the styling appeals to a younger crowd! I think that BMW intends for this car to aim at people anywhere from even 16!! to someone who is mid 30's.

Younger buyers may like the 1er for its price, but they may also like the styling 335i. I hate how some companies think younger people like small cars and hatchbacks. The fact is, if younger buyers could afford an Aston Martin V8 Vantage or some other supercar, they would get it. Actually, if anyone could afford a supercar, he/she would get it.

I agree too, but what 20 year old can afford a 335i?

I'm leaning on buying a 135i. All I need to do is test drive it. I can afford a 335i and the new M3. (my story HERE)

I completly dissagree with you.

The 1 series offers more performance than a 3 series, but the trade-off is slightly less luxury. It's a driver-centric car, squarly aimed at removing distraction from the driver. Notice the flip down nave, spartan dash, etc ?

That is just my opinion on where the one series is aimed at...you are certainly entitled to yours. I would get a 335i over a 135i though.

You are missing the part again. Yeah, BMW knows it may attract younger buyers, but it is also business. BMW does not mind attracting younger buyers who consider Civic Si or Mazda Speed 3 with extra cash in pocket, but not the people who ONLY have enough budget for those cars. It is still a premium automobile. You seem to be quite hanged up with the idea that this is not a car for older people. If older people are not considering this car, it is noly because they have more money to spend on 3, 5, 7 - series or Porsche or they cannot afford it. This ain't be a charity project for younger and cash constrained people.

What 20 year old can afford a 128i!!?

I don't see too many of the young crowd shopping a 1 series unless they are either trust funders or have an amazing job at that age.

Does not apply to me either. I could get a 335i or for that matter a new M3 if I wanted. I like small cars in general and always have. I also am no where near my 20's.

I turn 65 in 2008 and my Social Security check will cover the payment on my new 135i. Thanks for the ride!

and you're point being?.....

the styling really appeals to me, I'm 40...where, why, and how did you arrive at this conclusion?.......the pricing, which is almost certainly going to be loaded for 40k++ for 135 seems to be incongruent with your feeling that the car is targeted for a younger crowd...ditto for your 128, which will be 35+ well equipped..this car is perfectly suited to be my daily driver, and compliments my wife's Pathy, which is our "family" car....95% of the time I drive alone or with 1 passenger, or 2 of my kids....youre right about 16 though, since that's how old my oldest kid will be when I give the 135 to him in 4.5 years....

are you an agent provocateur???

I hope to God the 128 is 30k base.....schaden freude

This is 128ers attempt at appealing to the BMW pricing Gods.....128er:"hmmmm If only I can convince the Gods it's for us young people, they will give us a break and price it at 26k"....or maybe even A BMW marketing exec will read my post, print, and at the 11th hour in the November final pricing meeting, rush in, print in hand and say"My God, 128er is right all along, it's a young peoples car, not only should we price it at 26k, but give frisbees and tshirts with the purchase"

And to make a comment about the OP, I feel that we will see/are seeing a shift in marketing towards the sons of the baby boomers and the millenials. Suposedly we are the next 'greatest generation', not here to argue that point, but like it has been said on this site we want it all and we want it now. Conversely we are willing to go to great lengths to get what we want, and we are creative enough to find unique ways to make money to buy these things.

However, the stupid ones just rack up their credit card debt.
