GoPro HD HERO2 track settings

I recently picked up a GoPro HD HERO2 and was wondering what is the best video setting to have it on while at the track and having it mounted to the outside of the car?

I would use the sealed back to keep the wind noise to a min. Other than that, the defaults should work fine. Just make sure you are recording at the highest resolution using the wide setting.

You can get a mic cover if you use the open back from these guys.

Wow thanks so much for that. I haven't been able to figure out a way to cancel out the windnoise yet but this is definitely worth a try.

Wind noise is no longer an issue with the GoPro2's external mic connector. I'm using a powered mic with mine taped by the exhaust.

Didn't even know they had or needed a powered mic. How's it sound and what mic did you get?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

This is with an external audio recorder, but the result should sound similar (which is fantastic!).

Which video setting is the best for overall best quality with lowest pixelation ? There are quite of few to choose from and multiple 1080 and 720 settings.

I'm using this external mic

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=5336432695-20

Works like a charm. I route it from the chasecam headrest to the floor, then through the back seat, spool the extra cable in the trunk and tape the mic on the bumper facing downwards.

The standard GoPro2 plastic enclosure has no hole for the external mic so you have 2 options. Either buy their "skeleton" enclosure which is open on both sides, or drill a hole on the plastic enclosure and be done with it. I went for the latter, I can take a pic tonight if you're interested.

A wind sock will help at lower speeds but depending on where you mount the gopro or external mic you'll get wind noise at real track speeds if you have to drive with the windows down. Some of the best audio I've recorded at the track was with an external mic in the trunk or glove box.

1080 will give you the highest resolution but will use up more of your memory.
I use both 1080 and the 940 settings, and avoid using the 720.

Ok cool thanks for the advice. Any particular reason to avoid the 720?

The right spot in the foot well or under the seat could work too. Just somewhere that has as little wind as possible so the wind muff actually works.

I'm going to have to look into the GoPro HD 2 since it has a mic in and I have a decent little Tascam mic. A second (or third ) camera would make for much more interesting videos.
