Why no SRT Viper thread?
I'm surpised not even one of you guys started a thread about the SRT Viper. It'll be in showrooms in probably a month or less and it's starts at $97,395, while the top-of-the-line GTS starts at $120,395. Both before the $1,995 Destination Charge. 640 HP/600 TQ and a curb weight of 3,297 (with Track Package). If funds were available now, I'd trade the E92 M3 for a E90 M3 and be in line for one.

Doesn't seem like a real head-to-head vs. an M3. It's only a 2 seater, and is almost 2X the price of an M3 coupe.
It would be as if the guys on the BR-Z forums were considering F80 M3s, compared to their car. It might be fun to talk about, but if you're seriously considering one, you're probably not seriously considering the other. |

I am interested very much in the gen V Viper, not to replace the M3 mind you. Following the discussions on Viperclub and Viperalley without being a member. Have a mixed feeling about it. I have to see it in person.

This new Viper is unlike Vipers of old. That is easily the best looking modern American car made and in general a great looking car. The interior looks great and is supposed to have good quality...certainly better than our M3s and on par with most BMW models. You know the performance will be there, and being able to get an N/A engine is becoming far too rare these days. Other than Porsche or Ferrari and a few others, world class N/A engines are in short supply so its nice to see another v10 out there.

at ~3,300 lbs. and with ~650hp and tires that are 295 in front and 355 in the rear, it's a beast in an altogether different league. it will look badass in black. batmobile badass.

First in line at my dealer for a GTS. I want it loaded. Previously has a 2001 GTS and then moved on to other things. Finally wanting that muscle car feel again. Past 5 cars have been paddle shifting.
You are probably right that no one cross shops a viper and m3. Doesnt mean you cant have both! Hoping for the new m3 sedan actually.

The new Viper is pure badass. It looks great, both inside and outside. I cant wait for it to come out and be compared to other cars. Its gonna be the '90's all over again when it smashed everyone. I wish I could afford one at this moment.

Previous Vipers couldn't be daily drivers, ride was incredibly harsh and heat from side pipes made cabin a bit toasty. I hope new one fixes these issues b/c it looks beautiful.

The viper has never been "boring." I don't even care what the performance numbers are. Its the feeling of driving one. Its fun, scary, impractical, loud, and 600 ftlbs of torque at 2,000 RPM without having turbo lag.

Nissan did the same with the GT-R. They made dealers get certified and their master techs get certified before they were allowed to sell the car.

I have a Viper, its amazing. M3 and viper are night and day. M3 is a good everyday driver you can take to work and people will notice it but its still whatever, never really gets your heart going.. Viper is a whole different story.
