My experience: - My car did this too, especially after it was sitting for a couple of days. Not anywhere as loud as in that video. If video = 100% volume, then mine was maybe 30%? Didn't happen all the time. - Got BPM dev tune and I swear it happened even less frequently. This I cannot confirm and it could just be in my head - Switched to M1 0W40. Almost never happens anymore. If it does, it's usually when it's been sitting for 2 weeks or so. And even then, the sound is maybe 5-10% that I'm not even concerned about it. NOTE: I don't know if the thinner oil helped the issue or not, just my experience of the changes that happened. P.S. 120 Euros for a tank of gas argh. I think the most I've ever paid around here was $55

You know the ///M is not my daily driver ,and when i drive here like last friday...a trip to Brussels about 150 Miles, the clunk noise is gone ! Also the next day the car runs much better and feels stronger after a longer trip , that's why i said this car...the S65 engine needs to be driven and not playing the garage queen ! About the oil...i noticed after fresh oil change it's less, and again just like you but i'm using Castrol Edge 10W60 at my BMW dealer . About the BPM dev tune..have it too,.same thing as you less noise, less frequently! But one thing i'm afraid for it's the post of member M3PO,so here a copy of what he said about the video .>>>.That sounds very similar (but worse) to the sound that I had. BMW replaced one of the VANOS units and the sound is gone. So when it's the VANOS i'm saying.....damn !!! About the gas price...last year in summer i drove through the Belgian Ardennes very nice turns and roads through the forests ! Well that day i filled her up twice , i had to... knowing an ///M, and that day it was the price you said.... 120 Euros X 2 ! And had the impression that it was gold coming out of the filling pump...ohhh god man what a damn country ! And that evening on top of it... a restaurant with my wive ,my wallet was bleeding ! And when i see you'r price ...$ 55 ....well i said it already on this forum...and will say it again....God Bless America !!!

Btw, I lived in Brussels when I was a kid. I'd love to revisit one day! Been to the Ardennes many times with my classmates.

S65 Gurus...
When replacing the bearings from underneath the car, will I have room to use a stretch gauge on the rod bolts or will I be limited to simply torque settings? I plan to run ARP. Thanks in advance |

ARP bolts are straight torque, not stretch. 50 ft/lbs I believe.

Here is what the info from ARP says: Part Number: 201-6001 Application: BMW 4.0L (S65) V8 Cap Screw without Washer - Rod Bolt Installation [1] Please check the part-number(s) for your application against the part-number(s) listed on the instruction sheet. [2] Make sure there is an adequate chamfer around the bolt hole on the connecting rod cap to clear the radius under the head of the bolt. [3] Use ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant to lubricate the threads of the bolt and the under head of the bolt. Then install the bolts and tighten them hand tight. [4] ARP recommends using the STRETCH METHOD when tightening rod bolts. Following the instructions for using a stretch gauge, Stretch the bolts to . 0075 - . 0080 . [5] If you do not have a stretch gauge, torque the bolts to _ 60 ft-lbs using ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant. [6] The connecting rods should always be re-sized after new rod bolts are installed. [7] A log should be kept on the original non-torqued length of each bolt. Bolts that have any permanent deformation or have increased in non-torqued length by more than .001 in. should be replaced. |

Interesting new news found on the S85 M5 side of things, bmw started using 702/703 bearings in MY2009 M5's and continued on MY2010 cars.. Six 2009 s85 m5 engines that were opened up by Troy Jeup on M5board had 702/703 bearings. Those around late-mid 2008 built cars started getting these newer bearings.

This is what he told me:
"The 702/703 bearings all looked great by the way. Highest mileage as 42k and it looked far better than the 088/089 bearings with" -Troy Jeup
