Powder coat wheels black or space grey??
Hey guys
Haven't seen my new car yet since the tints went on but was sent a few pics yesterday. From the pics it seems that something is missing and I think it's the color of the rims. I'm thinking about maybe having them powder coated although need to see if that is a safety concern at all. Here are the pics before and after the tints. Would love to get everyone's opinions. Want to stick with bmw stock rims however, although will also want a winter wheel setup.... |

Speaking only for myself body colored wheels usually don't work for me. If I wanted a change I would likely go to a gunmetal or graphite color. I prefer these over black because for the most part they have the same general effect on the cars looks but have less of a tendency to get the blob effect that black can on dark days, when the car is in motion, etc.

I've always been a fan of black wheels/grills/etc on space gray, they compliment each other well. Body color wheels just seem to blend in.
And get the painted reflectors while you're at it! |

Spend some time with the car, 220's in silver look perfect most of the time to me. I really like the gunmetal 219's, maybe check them out if you want to stay stock.

The wheels are already painted Space Gray between the spokes and on the rim. Only the face has been machined to be polished. I think if you lost the polish, they would just look dirty. Black is fine, but you need another color/hue to make it so you aren't driving in a car with dark spots where wheels are supposed to be.
I don't get why people by by black wheels that you have to get close to in order to know there is any distinctive pattern. And when the tires get dirty...yuk. |

A drop would be nice but the purest in me wouldn't allow it unless really done right ie lots of expensive parts, hundreds of hours testing on the track and constantly balancing and aligning.
I will stick with this for now and see how it goes. |

^This! Don't ruin the wheels by powdercoating/painting the polished/machined face. PC/paint works on wheels like the 359's, but not on the 220M's.
^^This as well. |

Gloss black. Don't see why a lot of people hating on black when you can see it as stock colored rims to Maseratis, Jaguars, Bentleys etc.

Gotta agree. At first I was not a fan of black wheels but they have really grown on me. Personally Id keep OP's wheels as is but if they were 359's then Id go gloss black.

I got my car on blocks in the garage right now. with the rims off to the local body shop from a gloss black paint job on them
I have never liked a stock looking car. Even with tints the car is pretty stock looking. I would go black rims. |
