Reliable M3s check in!

Starting a thread for M3 owners who has experienced trouble free driving of the E9x M3.

I'll start:

2010 E92, manual. 141,000 km (90,000 miles). Daily driven, including Canadian winters, two track days.

Issues experienced:
Broken Differential bolt after a track day. Replaced under warranty.
Bad battery when car was 4 years old. Replaced out of pocket.

No other issues.

Maintenance as per BMW recommendation only.

2009 E90, DCT. 92,500km. Daily Driven, Sydney so no bad winters but the heeeeeat...

Issues experienced:
* Constantly needs fuel, but I'm happy to oblige.
* Wife broke BOTH the passenger and driver side vents tabs (Nearest the door)... errrrgh it's like living with the Hulk sometimes.
* Adaptive Headlight failure error message, only had it twice and it was only whilst scooting along over really badly maintained rough concrete road (My guess, loose connection at the plug).
* Occasionally the crank time on an overnight cold start is far longer than 'normal'. I'm wondering if it's a fuel delivery issue as the cranking is fine, plugs are new, it has spark. Maybe the check valve in the fuel pump is leaking so overnight the fuel drains back into the tank instead of holding pressure.

Previous owner did service once a year or ~10,000km.
I up that to twice a year and 7-8000km.

Gotta say, not a bad result really considering the performance.

No real issues other than Increased emissions light from secondary air pump sensor going out. Had rod bearings done as preventive maintenance. Other than that car is driven spiritedly and been super reliable. (Knock on wood)!

Driven all summer, but no winters. Lots of fun runs, some track days and spirited driving at all times. I Have had zero issues with the car. Previous maintenance records show the DCT pan gasket being replaces and brakes/rotors. Blackstone Reports are perfect and the only time I get scared is when I read rod bearing posts!

Haven't had any problems with lots of spirited driving, mostly garaged in winter (Vancouver) but still sees it occasionally. Just fill it up once every other day it seems which is the only downside to having a perfect motor like the s65

I'm crazy about maintaining my cars and bikes properly so I took care of just about everything upon taking ownership 4 months ago, including Rod Bearings.

Car has been flawless.

The local gas station attendant and I are pretty much best friends at this point.

2011.5 E90 M3 6MT. 35k miles now, purchased at 16k miles when it was 2 years old, CPO from dealer. I've had it a bit over 4 years now. It never had a warranty claim under either the original or CPO warranty. 100% problem free since new. I replaced the battery last November (6 years old) even though it spends time on a CTEK smart tender/charger. Great car, garaged 24/7 since new. Plan to own it a very, very long time.

2011 Manual, no mods, 47,000 miles

Warped brake rotors on track, replaced under warranty.
Lost vacuum pressure sensor on the brakes, limp mode, replaced under warranty.
Currently have TPMS problems that are not wheel-sensor related, probably wiring.

Auto start-stop is always on, never had starter problems.
Battery lasted 5.5yrs and replaced before failure.
Doesn't burn any oil between annual oil changes.

I've been rather proactive about replacing parts before they fail so take that into consideration with my answer. The only thing that's failed on this vehicle during my ownership is the clutch, secondary water pump and a thermostat. Since the clutch is a wear-and-tear item, I don't think I can really count that as a failure. The thermostat is a pretty common one and wasn't very expensive as was the water pump. I planned for the worst when I got the car, putting some cash aside and really haven't had any major issues which is awesome. And my car is 9 years old.

2010 e92 DCT. Purchased from dealer in spring 2013 with 20,000km and extended warrantee. Has 38,000km on it now. Always stored in winter. Parked in garage under car cover at other times. Tracked three times and spirited driving otherwise.

Maintenance by dealer as per BMW schedule with oil changes every 3-4,000km. No problems - everything operates/works as intended. Still waiting for a new airbag though. One of the most reliable cars I've ever owned (knock on wood).

2011 E90 DCT. 31k miles. My only car so cover all duties. Except for the infamous DCT leak at 19k and some weird EDC behavior, not even a light bulb failed.
5k mile oil 10w60 change + most other maintenance prior BMWs recommendation. No RBs any time soon though.

2013 e92 M3 DCT. Just hit 48k miles today as a daily. Stage 2 BPM tune and full exhaust. Purchased @ 31k miles in December 2016.

Some issues:
  • Brake booster sensor went bad (Warranty)
  • Right rear wheel bearing replaced after road debris hit me under the car. (Warranty)
  • Passenger seatbelt hander thing went bad. Got it replaced. (Warranty)
  • Fuel tank breather valve (Warranty)
Will do rod bearings around 60-70k miles as preventative maintence.
I did get rear ended pretty good however BMW collision shop made the repairs to spec so I don't really care. Car still drives/handles the same. Doing some suspension/wheel mods soon. Plan on riding it out til the engine dies.

Hey Steve, I think we've met/talked at the Sandlapper events like the one at Michelin last Fall? I see from your signature that you have a history with a Bavaria -- we'll have to have some nerdy E3-talk the next time we're at an event together!

Regards,
Chuck
