Why DON'T You Like About Your Eisenman or A.A?

I have had the Eisenmann and AA on several otherM3's and this one is getting the full AA treatment this time...I think the quality and matched components for a pretty nice increase in HP and sound did it for me plus Omar was great and is still good to deal with...on the waiting list for the system now but should be getting it very soon.

I personally LOVE my AA exhaust but I need to send Omar an email to tell me what my sound decibles would be at 3/4 throttle from 50 feet away.

I sogned up for some track days locally and thye do decible testing . Wont let cars on the track if they exceed 92 decibles at 3/4 throttle from 50 feet away.

I hope I pass otherwise I will not be allowed on the track and no refund...

If you've got the AA Signature exhaust I don't think you'll have any trouble with the dB limits. Inside, my Signature is only 1dB louder at 76mph than the stock muffler.

If they test you, then keep the rpm over 3,000 for quietest sound.

I just got my AA Signature installed. What are people talking about only slightly louder than stock? It depends on your rpms and speed.

At speeds less than 50 mph and less than 3000 rpms, the AA Signature is incredibly loud inside the cabin and can be very annoying. It is definitely one of the louder exhausts I've heard and without a doubt, does drone at these low speed / low rpms.

At speeds around 60-75 mph, and 3000 rpms or more, it is true that the AA Signature is very quiet...slightly louder than stock.

But let me warn people that it can be very loud at slower speeds and low rpms. I'm going to try to borrow my friend's sound pressure meter to measure the dbs at different conditions. Unfortunately, I do not have a reference point when I had the stock exhaust. But perhaps somebody here can post what the stock exhaust db levels are at the driver head rest, with the sound pressure gauge pointing to the passenger side.

The odd thing is that if you accelerate to high rpms, I thought the exhaust would get louder. But the reality is that the exhaust actually becomes quieter! I find myself shifting into a lower gear in order to obtain higher rpms to avoid the loud drone.

frankzlin - I found the same thing with my Eisenmann Race. A LOT louder from idle to 3k or so, then it quiets down just right to hear that intoxicating engine sound. I dont have any numbers either for actual noise levels, but its considerable. That being said however, its still very manageable and a friend and I could talk just fine while in those ranges.

Yes, listening to radio and talking is just fine for me above 3000 rpms, too. But anything under that range, is more problematic. I was merely parking my car in my garage and I was talking on the phone over bluetooth. I had to ask my caller to repeat herself twice because I could not hear.

At idle, it is not louder than stock. The tone is very pleasant and smooth. But when that light turns green, and you just barely press on the gas, the roar of the exhaust takes over.

i havent heard the eisanmann, but my AA sounds incredible. i could drive down the road all day just listening to it. it has a deep tone at lower rpm's, and a little pitch as it increases.

Execpt it wont pass inspection (straight pipes). I went to watkins glen for a track day and everyone commented on how awesome my car sounded one person said "every bmw should sound like yours". Got the same response at a recent road ralley.

This is exactly my opinion. Anyone considering the Active Autowerke exhaust should read this. I would say the below is 95% correct in my opinion. The AA IS DEFINITELY louder than stock but, in my opinion, I am not quite as "annoyed" by it as franklin below. Having said that, I think he captures the volume issue pretty well.

Okay I have a sound pressure meter with me now. With a passenger taking the readings, I found that cruising from 60 mph - 70 mph, the sound levels were hovering around 92-94 dbs. When I was slowly accelerating from 0 mph to around 30 mph, I saw a spike at 99 db..but it stayed close to around 97 dbs. I'll try to post an HD video and maybe come up with a simple chart for you guys.

Which meter? I got mid-70 dB with my Radioshack meter held at ear height between the front seats. 92-94 is really loud. Mine was cruising. I'm sure that I can get a lot louder during warm up and around 2-grand at WOT, but in normal driving I'm not experiencing anything that loud with my AA. I've now got over 3000 miles on my AA Signature.

I'm also using a Radio Shack meter (analog). Mid 75 sounds way too quiet at cruising speeds. In fact, I think that's even quieter than stock! Are you sure your meter is accurate?

I just did another test at idle while the car was warm. I put the meter's sensor one inch away and perpendicular to the tail pipe, and I measure 110 db. Inside the car with the meter held at ear-level and windows closed (i.e. rolled up), I measure 80 dbs at idle. I wish I could perform more tests while driving but it's too dangerous to do by myself. I took a video of the exhaust, but man, it sounds like crap. I think I was standing too close to the pipes and the reverb of the exhaust was just too much for my Nikon D5000 microphone. I'll try taking another video later.

In the end, it's just personal preference, but I like the E-Race sound.

If I remember correctly it was around 75dB. I'll double check tomorrow. No way it was up in the 90s, which anyone would consider very loud.

I looked up my original post and it was 75dB, up from 74. I mess around with sound a lot as an audiophile and trumpeter and I'm absolutely certain that my typical sound level does not approach 90+dB.

I'll take my meter out tomorrow and see what peak reading I can get. I imagine we're talking 80=dB when cold and in a garage structure at around 2000 rpm. We'll see.
