M3 E9X breaking in at 50k miles

So a BMW mechanic told me these engines truly break in around 40-50k miles. Anyone else ever hear this? Is it even remotely true..

I have a strong suspicion that he was joking. Like "Nah that thing will run a lot longer, it's just getting broken in!" or something.

this reminds me of when i owned my NSX, the magical "break in" number was 75k miles. it was actually dyno proven with the same car (tho i know dyno runs can vary due to conditions etcetc).

the Honda engine builder stated that the motor at that mileage finally is "broken in"...

i hit that number on my old NSX and yah i didn't notice anything....haha
