Some weird (and possibly unrelated) things going on in the camera market. Used inventory is really low at B&H and some new stuff is going dirt cheap. Beach Camera has new 7Ds for $1199 at their eBay site.

That's really nice... a really easy way to get more telephoto range, with the 1.6x crop...

But, I must resist.... my wallet is already hemorrhaging from the 5D3.

Yep, like me with the 5D MkII sale at the Canon store a few weeks ago. I had one in my cart for $1495 shipped and just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. Wish I had more discretionary funds.

Reed seems to have an endless supply of funds for his hobbies...

oh, speak of the devil.

I really really want to... hehe... I cannot bring myself to return the 5D3. And, despite how much pricier it is, the 5D3 is just so much better, and I can't bring myself to shoot with the 5D2 any more.

LOL, toys are catching up to me. Some engine work on the boat is creeping up in price. Will be delaying other acquisitions for a bit

Interesting to hear how much you're liking the mkIII. Is it a really noticeable difference on raw files?

My mkII is struggling a bit. So I'm being open minded

There is no significant difference between the raws under ISO 3200. At 6400 you start noticing differences in noise, and then it becomes much better on the 5D3.

Honestly, the main differences are build quality, ease of use, significantly improved AF, etc. The new AF system alone makes this a worthwhile upgrade if you don't consider the price tag.

ok so here are some high ISO "test" shots no time during the week so i took some today when we went out for coffee and some at the apartment with the girlfriend sleeping on the couch all are straight out of the camera JPEGs.

some comments on the Fuji.
Pros: looks and feels great!
light.
sharp.
functionality wise its ok, there is a Q button which brings basic functions on screen (could have been customizable). l
lens is great.
quiet.
friends told me it looks great but the other one was better wasn't it? because the D5100 was bigger and fatter automatically they presumed that it was better, so low profile, another plus.
high iso performance.
OVF/EVF. both great, i prefer the OVF. its big bright and you can see a pic you took for a few milliseconds right after you took it.

cons:
autofocus at night its a bit tricky.. meaning its slow! hope they fix this with a firmware update like they did with the lens clattering.
manual focus. might as well didn't have any!
it could use some more grip so i'm gonna have to give $100 more for the extra handgrip

So for the ISO..

around 8-830am sun sets at 730..
1st. 1/60 f1.4 iso 5000. monochrome yellow filter

2nd. 1/60 f1.4 iso 3200

3rd. 1/60 f1.4 iso 3200

apartment pics. only light available was the tv.
4th 1/60 f1.4 iso 6400

5th 1/60 f1.4 iso 12800

6th f1.60 f1.4 iso 12800

Nice shots, panicos. Very low noise it appears. But the GF is going to kill you if she finds out you took pics of her asleep and posted them.

Yeah, I knew once I bought mine the prices would come back down.

Bunch of folks trying to sell barely used ones on POTN for $1250-$1400. Good luck to them.

the non-apartment photos look awful. this may be a result of the lighting and coloring and also the missed focus. the apartment photos of the sleeping woman (creeper) look really good though.
