Do you think the new M3 will be intro'd w/SMG, then later get DSG?

What are the odds?

Do you think BMW will phase out SMG in the E92 M3, after a year or two, in favor of a dual-clutch system?

Or will the car be introduced with a DSG?

Garage List
i doubt it ... it costs the company major money to do a major change like that in the lifecycle of a car ... def aint viable ... it will most probably be an SMG III type box like in the M5 ... ya when the new iterations come out maybe then a DSG ... but im sure the DSG will first see its appearance on a 7

I think that they will do the same as the previous M3. they will only offer MT in the begining and then a year or 2 a next generation SMG.

SMG II was not ready when E46 M3 was launched. E60 M5 got SMG (and for a while) SMG only right from launch. This was SMG III. We have already heard that the new M3 will come with SMG III and I'd bet it comes right from the begining with SMG III. If the car lasts long enough a DSG option may become available but I kind of doubt it. They will want to debut it in another car (as mentioned elsewhere).

I don't think they would debut DSG on a car that will rarely be shifted manually. I think it will most likely debut on an M or on the 3 or Z series.

A car doesn't need to be shifted manually to benefit from a DSG. Having driven a GTI with the DSG it's shifts are super-smooth both in auto and manual modes, making putting around town a breeze. Also, combine that with the fuel benefits of a manual, and you have a good combination for the 7-Series, IMO

Just talking out of my rear, but yeah.
