Akrapovic Slip-on Tips/Fitment on an E92
Hi: I had the Akra slip-on installed on my E92 M3 last week. It sounds great, but the fitment of the tips didn't seem right - they were too far in from the bottom of the bumper compared to the many pictures I saw of E92s.
The first picture attached is how my E92 looks, top down. Can't even see the logos. I went back to my installer today and we found out it is literally impossible to push the tips any further out. The second picture is the distance that would be needed for the pipe to be further out for the tip to stick out like all the pictures (and indeed the E92 stock set up). The third picture is not of my parts, but is one I found on here and seems to suggest that Akra E90 pipes and E92 pipes are slightly different, and I'm worried that I may have the E90 version, which is causing the problem. However, it seems that Akra write "E92" on both versions confusingly enough! Would be grateful for thoughts - thank you. Last edited by bknight; 06-10-2010 at 08:41 PM.. |

I was quite surprised how much mine didn't stick out either. I have them set flush with the rear bumper though when cold, when hot the just stick out past the bumper... but not nearly as far as I would've expected based on other peoples pictures and other exhaust systems. You might want to speak to your installer, they probably have a little room to pull your tips out just a bit more so they are flush with bumper when cold.

Looks to me like you were sold an E90 unit. Does the canister say E92 on it at all? I would speak to whoever sold you the exhaust and confirm what they sent you. The proper E92 exhaust should stick out plenty. feel free to PM me any other Akra questions if you need. We have put on a few here.

Thanks for the responses. I have PMd my vendor. The installers said there was absolutely no way the tips could even be an eighth of an inch further out. I think sadly I have the E90 mufflers. I found a thread on here (where that third picture was posted) that seems to confirm that Akra write E92 on both but I would guess the serial number is different. Really hard for me to verify the serial no. right now but I am pretty sure I have the E90 mufflers based on how the tips fit (first pic).

It's not a great situation, but hopefully it can get sorted out. An email has been sent to Akrapovic to see if they can confirm things.
Btw, here's a pic of my mufflers before they were put on the car. Can anyone on here with expertise of seeing a lot of these slip-on systems tell by looking at the length of the pipes that this is an E90 and not an E92 system? Thanks. |

From that photo it looks like the E90 system, the bends on the extension for the tips seem way shorter than the E92.
