Planning on moving to a Chicago suburb

I'm thinking of moving to a Chicago suburb in a few months. However, I don't have a good idea of which ones are safe and have a relatively good community.

Any suggestions? I'm looking to purchase a house and my ideal place is something like if I leave my garage door open I should not be expecting things to be missing over night. Or something like that.

Thanks, will take a look at HP. Seems like most of the nice places are up north.

Tbh, I'm not sure if there are that many places I would bet that leaving my garage door open was guaranteed to result in not missing anything in the morning, even in a 'safe' neighborhood or good area. Kids will be kids.

That said, like living anywhere, you should consider what is most important to you: commute, schools, accessibility to public transportation, proximity to downtown or Lake Michigan, shopping, available land, walking/running/cycling trails or lanes, etc... There are a lot of good areas distributed throughout suburbia and each region offers its own 'something'.
