About to purchase an M3. Would Appreciate your thoughts

Hey Guys

I have been lurking on the forums for a while now.first post!

Anyways, I have been trying to purchase an e92 M3 for a while now. Fortunately, one has shown up near my house for 37k! This is obviously a great price, and the car has every option I want: Carbon roof, black on black, DCT, Nav, keyless start. The exterior and interior are for the most part flawless.
Only downside is that the car has 65k miles.

I would get the Bmw Total care warranty, which covers me up to 100k miles- so warranty isn't the problem. I am just wondering if you guys get turned off by hearing it has 65k miles, and if there are problems that would arise with this high mileage.

I appreciate any input or thoughts! I am really excited about getting the car. But if you guys think its a bad choice, I might reconsider.

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry too much about it, as long as you purchase the extended warranty. Since the car isnt a 335 you wont have the problems that a FI car would have ( I.E, HPFP, Turbo replacement). For $37,000, im pretty sure i would do it.

Just make sure to do a Carfax on the car, or even take it into the nearest bmw and see if they would CPO it for you, if they say yes, then the car is in good shape

Good Luck

I wouldn't. You aren't getting enough of a discount on such a high mileage car to make it worth it. Basically, for $7K more you can get one with half the mileage. Of course, if this is your upper limit price then you don't have that option, but you do have the option of lots of other cars, new and used.

Hey guys

Thanks for your thoughts! I ended up purchasing the car today. It was almost a straight trade for my Audi a5 3.2L s-line with about 14k miles. As I said before, I have the extended warranty to cover me up to 100k miles. Also, the car will be paid off by november of next year, so when I am nearing 100k miles I will probably sell this m3 and go for a slightly newer one with less miles. For the time being though, this will be a great car!

The car is being delivered to me this coming Wednesday. I'll be sure to take pictures when it arrives.Feels good to have an M, and i'm not even driving it yet!

Any other thoughts on a high mileage E92? I have one local with 49k miles and the seller wants $45k. It's a 2009.

I think I saw that ad. I don't like the 3rd party warranty and i'd be concerned about wear items and such. That car is just 1 yr old and has the equiv miles of maybe 3-5 years.

For 3-5k more you can get a low/medium mileage 08/ maybe 09.
I don't think I'd touch it for anything lower than 40k.

I wanted the same car but after asking here and thinking it over. I"m going the better safe than sorry route.

As an aside I'm never sure how to react when they say a car has been looked over by their own internal mechanic. I'm not going to say they lie but I've dealt with too many shady people to assume they never do.

If you do get this i'd insist on a bmw pre sale inspection. maybe find out how many things need to be fixed before this car would qualify for a cpo (it never will be because it wasn't bought at a bmw dealership, i think, but mechanically.).

High mileage has a bad stigma, but if it was cared for and you get the extended warranty, you are fine.

I don't necessarily agree with you. When I bought my 2007 335i in 2008, it had about 28k miles on it. I checked maintenance records through BMW and it was always in their for maintenance oil changes, etc. It's definitely a lot of miles, but that car didn't give me any big problems until I sold it with around 49k miles. The only issue it had was a fuel injector. I feel like as long as the newer M3 is under 50k, I will be able to get it home and have it checked by a BMW dealer and they can fix anything that's a must under warranty.

I understand that everyone thinks BMWs should have an extended warranty, but I perform all the work myself anyway. And I have a decent amount of hookups for OEM parts. The only thing that's funny to me is that I have a 95 turbo M3 with 73k miles and this one is 14 years newer with only 23k less miles. ha.

My buddies have 180k-200k on their e36 m3s and are still on the stock engine. However, I understand these newer cars have technology out the wazoo that can go bad. Is there anything that's notorious on 2009 M3s that I should be on the lookout for? It's rare to find an 2009 sub $50k that's a coupe and alpine/fox red. The 2009s I believe have the upgrades idrive as well which is a plus.

High mileage does not scare me on a relatively young car. It just means that this person had a 200 mile per day commute, verly likely on a highway...

better to have high miles than it sitting unused all the time, as long as the service records check out I wouldn't worry about it since the mileage is reflected in the lower price
