They send these out almost every other month in various amounts of reward points.

I have an amex gold that I've had for a while know. I love it. Been meaning to upgrade to the new gold premier just haven't gotten around to it. The annual fee does kinda suck but it the customer service protection has saved me more then once.

Also, once you are a customer long enough and with a good record of paying in full and on time you'll begin to receive a little leeway on larger purchases. It started out that anything I bought over $300 they gave me an extra 30 days to pay in full(so 60 days total w/o incurring any finance charges). It has since slowly dropped to $100. All the time anything I charged under the amount must be paid in full. On my bill it separates purchases above $100 and under, the above I don't have to immediately pay and the under must be paid in 30 days. It's pretty awesome. It did take several years to start getting this setup though.

I checked on the rewards site and 20,000 points only equal to $100 in AMEX gift cards or cash back. $500 gift card costs 100,000 points.
So, I guess it wasn't the $750 as posted on this forum.
Does anyone know how to receive $750 or equal to- with the 75,000 points?

did you search membership rewards? gap, home depot, banana, b&n, zappos, pretty much ALL the gift cards are $750 for 75k. amex-branded prepaid credit cards will cost you more points.

I doubt it.... When I got my Chase Sapphire card it was the day that the Chase computer system shut down and I never received a confirmation so I applied by phone. I was instantly denied for a duplicate application. They don't seem to like customers who appear eager to run up their credit.

.
I break down all types of rewards programs like this:

What is the value of 1 point? The value of 1 Amex Membership Rewards point is about $0.005. Yes, 1/2 cent. This is true for most of the items that can be purchased on the AMEX website with the points.

e.g. iPad 2, 16GB, Wifi (value $499). Will cost 94,400 points.

Some of the non-AMEX gift cards (as mentioned above) are better values ($0.01 value per point... yes 1 cent... this is double.)

So here are your options with 75k points...

(a) Purchase a flight. Value: varies greatly on the destination - up to $1000

(b) Get $750 in Barnes and Noble gift cards (or Gap, etc.). Value: $750

(c) Spend up to another $19,400 in purchases before you have enough points (total 94,400) to buy a $499 iPad. Value: $499

(d) Redeem your points for most other non gift-card items. 75000 x 0.005 = Value: $375

The best use of your points is option (a) or (b), as long as you can put those gift cards to use (idea: Xmas is coming up.)

This card is great for the free $375 - $750 you get for signing up, and if you can take advantage of the other benefits of the card. Otherwise, for future spending, I recommend a card that gets you *at least* 1 cent per point that you accumulate: Discover 1% cash back, Amex Starwood Preferred Guest, etc.

Most consumers will give that $375 - $750 back to Amex in interest, annual fees, and other charges. Remember folks, they're running a business... it takes some smarts to outsmart them.

How did the convo go? Was he/she cool about honoring it or were they giving you a run around?

And congrats!
