Hopefully you didn't blow the motor bro, but at least you got a few sessions in before you were sidelined. Keep us posted, glad to hear you made it back ok after a long tow home.

Don't worry, those things are cheap to rebuild. Hopefully you won't need a rebuild or anything, hopefully it is something small I'll see you and the M3 at the next event.

I'm not sure yet. Will require tearing the engine apart to determine the official cause. I'm in the process of determining whether it is worth it to tear apart / rebuild the current motor or buy a replacement. Obviously it will not be worth the time / money to determine the cause if I plan to scrap the existing engine.
To be clear - this is not an M3 engine problem. I witnessed M3's running flawlessly at the track all day!

The only late model 911 (996 or 997) that I would consider is one with a Metzger motor = GT3 or Turbo. I think the 2009+ cars have engine improvements but the Metzger motor is supposed to be the best (that block has been around since the late 80's). The main weak point of the non-metzger engine is the IMS bearing. Not sure yet but my IMS may have caused the failure (google IMS bearing if you have not heard of it). AND I had an LN Engineering IMS ceramic bearing upgrade installed in march of this year. Again not sure if that was the failure but some of the symptoms point to that. Many people say the IMS issue is over-stated on the forums. After talking to some local engine builders, I will tell you I think it's under-stated.

Great meeting you out at the track. Hopefully it works out without being too costly. Although huge clouds of blue smoke were rolling out of the back when I saw it during your first session while I was taking pics up by the balcony.

Those clouds were not indicating good things to come... I added oil and the car ran well for a few more sessions. Then it was done. Some of the people I spoke with about the rebuild have said that the engine does not handle high g force and I probably starved the engine of oil during cornering. Apparently there are some upgrades to help combat the issue. Call me crazy but I don't think a Porsche should require upgrades to handle cornering....
