So you'd rather buy a RS4 or C63 instead of just going with Sparkling Graphite (a pretty nice gray, to use your terms) on the E90 M3? That's a drastically rash decision, unless you aren't really that committed to the M3.

Right now, I am not committed to any of these 3 cars. I am waiting for all to be available so I can test drive at the same time. If, for example, I conclude that I like the M3 and one of the other cars equally, color will be a deciding factor. And personally, I find SG too dark a color for the E90 body. I prefer medium silver/grey colors for this car - like space grey. From what I can tell, the MB may have the best choices for silver/grey colors. But, color is not my driving force (excuse the pun).... First, I have to choose the right car for me, then I worry about the color.

I'm also kind of stuck between a rock (SSII) and a hard place (Sparkling graphite). I'd really like that space grey on the sedan, but it's not looking like it's available according to the M3 BMWUSA brochure. Just looking at the E90 vs E92 335, though, the E90 has Arctic metallic, which is similar to space grey. Perhaps BMW will be adding that to the E90 M3 lineup? you'd think that if they offer an option inbetween the two for the 335, that they'd do the same for the M3... after all, how hard is it to paint it if they already have the systems online for the 335....

I thought I remember seeing it was not available on the sedan, E90.
You going through with the order, Eric? How much longer before you can't make any changes to your order?

I just checked BMWUSA.com and for the 335i sedan Space Gray was not available. The 335i coupe did have Space gray as an option as we know already. So it would seem reasonable that the M3 would follow suit in not having Space Gray as an option for the e90 M3. I would almost hope that they provide an additional color that the e92 would not have, just to compensate alittle.

I know I'm not Eric, but the overseas military dealer I'm working with said I can change my order at the very least until the pricing is released and they enter the order in (with a production date).... an option I've used to switch from a E90 335, to the E90 M3 once it was announced, and now again to switch colors and options as they have been announced.....

I agree that colour is important but to deny you the car you want.
I can only assume that you really aren't that caring on which car you drive as long as the colour is right. Maybe South's Youtube link is a good call. |

I didn't realize that I would raise all this ire by my comments about color. In an attempt to clarify: After researching and test driving the cars on my short list (i.e. at this stage - M3, RS4, C63 and CTS-V), if I end up undecided between two, then color -more than price (within reason) or brand loyalty - will determine which car I end up buying. But, having said that, for me. color is more than just the tie breaker. In fact, I'm willing to make some trade-offs for the right color. For example, if I had to choose, I would pick color over 19" wheels, M-Drive or DCT. I would also choose color over "slightly" more responsive steering or "slightly" better handling , or a "slightly" better track time, or even "slightly" better styling. But, of course, in the end, I'm not going to sacrifice the right car for the sake its color. But, from what I've read, I expect that I'm going to have a tough time choosing between these cars...and if I do, then color will be an important part of the overall package in determining my ultimate choice... I hope this helps clarify my position.
