I would not be suprised if a performance automobile that costs up to $35,000 more than a M3 could be faster. A more intresting question would be is what cars that cost about the same or less would walk away from an M3?

i think, if anything, to make this question slightly intelligent, you have to take out the 5k in mods part. compare stock to stock, or modded to modded if you must.
its too hard otherwise and there are too many variables.
compare stock for stock.

Even that's not straight forward.

It depends on what you're cooking. You don't want to use Chicken stock with a beef dish. And you definitely don't want to use beef stock with a fish meal.

to take it one step further, as a mildly trained cook...i kinda like to mix my stocks and broths...like lobster stock with a rich meat dish....and vice versa.
i know too far, but i couldnt help myself

Hell, drop a big block into an old Camaro, put in a hot cam and some ported heads, headers, intake, and gears. If all you want to do is go fast in a straight line, it's very, very easy to do it.

Under $100k is a bit too much, there are too many cars that will walk the M3 just under $100k and the M3 is just under $70k fully equipped. The better price would be under $70k. And the only one i can think of is the GTR, stock, if you can get it at that price. The Evo X and a Vette with $5k mods would probably walk it too.

EDIT: I totally forgot about the C63, definitely would walk the M3 on a straightline.

What about a C6 Z06 corvette? You can get one for about 65k.

As a C63 owner, I am more then able to admit the E92/90 M3 is a superior handling car in comparison. However I’m not sure why some M3 owners still can’t concede that in a straight line/drag race exhibition the M3 will lose all the time with all variables being equal (Good Launches, No Miss shifts, No Bald tires). The only difference will be a DCT equipped M3 will narrow the gap between a C63, as the 6MT will offer even less competition. Regardless even if you were to take the situation to the bolt on war of mods (forget the stroker kits, force induction options due to the high cost). Kleemann offers a K2 package for the 6.2 Liter M156 engine that produces up to 560 HP and 519lb-ft of torque with the addition of a set of high flow exhaust manifolds and downpipes with steel sport catalysts and a ECU reprogramming. This package can be obtained for $4000 from a Kleemann dealer. With that being said I’m not sure what bolt on mods for an M3 can be obtained for $4000 that could match that level of performance. In the end it’s the same story M3 offers superior handling, C63 offers superior straight line acceleration.

Well said. I don't think any ///M3 owner really believes he is faster that the C63 in a straight line.

cts-v, m5, and m6 all fail on the track. have personal experience with each. the m5 and m6 are extremely hampered by their extra 1000 pounds. the cts-v that i ran into was close in performance but couldnt keep his brakes from overheating in stock form. straight line these other cars are better but who cares about that. we arent driving bracket racers.

An Evo X GSR. Add $5K worth of important mods and you will see HUGE gains. I used to have an Evo IX MR and I put a few grand worth of mods, and it really gave higher priced super cars a run for their money.

Although, an M3 is what it's suppose to be. It has the performance. It has the refinement. It has the comfort. It has the practicality.

In my honest opinion, the M3 is in a league of its own. The C63 is cool, but it lacks the race car handling and edge of the M3. The IS F is simply.....FAIL.

Yes. You can get a nicely optioned C2S, comparable to the M, for $93-$94k MSRP minus a 5-8% discount, sometimes even more.

If you don't mind a slightly used 07 w/ 5k miles, this is a good deal for $65k.

Man "devo"! You are so lucky! You're waiting to get the new 2010 GT3. That is my ultimate dream car right now. That car probably has the best driving experience compared to any car, at any price. The new GT3 is so cool! If a new GT3 is still available 5+ yrs from now, I'll most likely get it. That's when I'll probably give up my M3. I better enjoy my M3, 'cuz it's gonna be a long wait before I get the GT3.

Add a modded Lotus Elise to that list. Turbo Elise = 400 hp in a 1900 lb car. Walks on most things. Used Elise = ~25-30K. Add 5-10K of turbo, intercooler, catch cans, and a charlieX tune and you've got an untouchable track and autox monster.

Good enough illustration of how stupid this thread is. My Exige S was a F-ing fighter jet with no amenities. I was happy to live with it and didn't mind the discomfort. The 135i I'm picking up tomorrow is luxurious AND quick. You buy a car because of the test drive, maintenance costs, drivetrain and chassis life, etc... Not because it can walk on other cars. Unless you're 16.

The only thing worse than car-penis contests is kill stories about drag racing on public roads. Go to a track and enjoy how comfy and fast your car is.
