Nice to see Evolve Automotive offering their own! About time these pipes came out, haha.
Which reminds me, I should really dust off this Evolve XPipe and install it sometime soon...

They are indeed shorter than some of the other brands out there. I was looking at the pic and realize that Evolve Automotive seemed to have designed the test pipe to be a "slip-on" style fitment. My assumption is these will slip on over the OE XPipe and those thin clamps are used to crimp or tighten the two together for a secure lock.
On my E46 M3, I have a similar type of slip-on flange between the headers and the section 1 (mid-pipe) and it has proven to be rather reliable. No exhaust leaks, no rattles, no worry about failing gaskets or misalignment. My E46 is driven all year round too in the salty and damp winters. Anyone at Evolve Automotive, feel free to correct me if my assumptions are incorrect.

You are absolutely correct. The primary delete pipes are designed to slip over the X Pipe and the clamps crimp over. This allows for more margin for error when cutting the stock X Pipe down to fit them. |

After a few hundred miles it will. If the CEL light doesn't bother you then you'll be fine, the car won't be pulling timing.

On a part in this location without any support it is absolutely essential to have a slip on design as the join is very strong. This method also gives people the option to weld them on correctly and have a smooth inner section.
This method also allows for people to weld the test pipes without having any weld marks on the inner pipe work. The slip on method also allows for a leak free setup which is VERY VERY important given the oxygen sensors are in that area! We posted on a test pipe thread long ago and mentioned that if it is to be done, it has to be done properly. |

Any kind of air/gas flow does not like to see a harsh edge as the air disperses as it passes over this area. Now, as far as welding goes. You slip them over and for a permanent solution you weld on the outer side of the test pipe directly to the outer part of the OEM X Pipe. You can also fill in the slits with weld. This is just a point which allows everyone to make this permanent and extremely solid if they never want to return back to stock... and you would be surprised how many cars we see here in the UK with welded in test pipes even though they are done not so nicely! Anyway, very happy that people have picked up on these small details. These details are important to is no matter how simple they may seem. As also mentioned before by Imran, gives much more margin for error when cutting the OEM X-pipe. |
