Has anyone done this to a non-zcp edc car?

Wondering if the results will be the same or if ZCP do infact have shorter struts.

I plan on doing it with a non ZCP soon. Got my springs waiting on my bump stops to come in.

Does anyone know the part number for the 1996 E36 M3 front bump stop?

Just want to give a shout out to the OP for sharing this info with the forums. I did the install yesterday with the modified strut mounts and bump stops. I'm really surprised at how well the car rides! I've never been a fan of lowering springs on any of the BMWs I've owned (as per the reasons in first post) but this seemingly works so far.

I went for a test run on some nasty bumpy an pothole ridden roads and it only bottomed out on one occasions, where I bet even a stock car would have. The car definitely rides a bit stiffer, even more pronounced in Sport Plus EDC mode which is a nice bonus. I felt the stock Sport Plus EDC didn't offer that much differentiation.

So I have EDC on 08 E90 currently has B&G springs (previous owner installed) and the ride is crap or not to my liking. After reading this I'd need to do the following:

1. install e36 M3 coupe bumpstops (Front/Rear)
2. shave down the front guide support (underside of strut mount)
3. remove the rear spring pad

and she should ride better?

Yes, the problem is you don't have enough suspension travel and are riding the bump stops. With the modifications above, it'll be a night and day difference.

I followed MRF's tutorial and my car rides absolutely amazing. No bottoming out, not hard crashing over bumps. Just glued to the road.

Is the suspension the same on the e90 and e92? Im thinking on doing this to my e90 lci EDC. Is it the same routine for the e90?

What does the trimmed front guide supports aid in?

The upper strut bearing sits on top of the strut shaft. The shaft is machined for it to sit there. If you reduce the leg of the upper strut bearing, you increase the range of travel of the strut shaft. If you have 2 inches of suspension travel and run springs that are 1 inch shorter, you have 1 inch of travel. Take 1/4 off the upper strut bearing and use bump stops that compress 1/4 inch more, and you just gained back half the travel you lost, which is travel you need if you drive on anything other than smooth roads. Its the transitions, bumps, dips, potholes, etc. of the real world that cause the suspension to crash and bang as it bottoms out.

So far I have the springs, I've ordered the bump stops but where did you find the rubber tube that wraps around the lower spring coil . Is that something a Home Depot carries or am I searching an automotive store ?

I had this done on my non ZCP/non edc M3, and all I can say is WOW. It made a huge difference, the ride quality feels the same if not better than with the stock springs. And the car sits evenly on the front and back.
