I truly think left foot braking will open up a new world of possibilities.

Like I said I'm duck footed so trying to hit both pedals leaves my knees touching each other and my feet far apart and it's super awkward so extending the brake pedal to the left would help a lot. I looked for custom-performance pedals and they only make one for an 06 SMG transmission. Will this fit? |

Hardest part is learning the initial pressure with your left foot. Mine has been trained to be heavy with various clutches so it just goes from 0-mash. Its easy to modulate pressure after the initial placement but Im going to have to do a lot of practice just to train myself not to mash the pedal at the beginning. |

I have spent so much time training my right foot/leg to be sensitive to modulating the throttle and brake at various intensities but my left foot has always been the hulk-smash-pedal one. I have the sinking feeling that this may take a while... |

Karting. It'll teach you to LFB quick...Because if you can't LFB smoothly, consistently, and modulate precisely every time, you'll find yourself getting beat by a 12 year old girl with ZERO driving experience.
And let me tell you getting trash-talked by a little girl is not fun. Nor is suppressing the urge to reach over and slapping her silly with the back-hand in front of her 6' 2", 250 lbs dad.

For standard corner approaches where you brake, downshift, gas it doesn't seem like it would be a huge benefit. |

In my personal opinion, I think its a 'fun to know' thing but its much more important to become an expert with braking first. Especially when you get to things such as regressive vs. progressive braking. |

Every braking zone that requires braking but not a downshift, if you're driving a manual. On a DCT? EVERY braking zone.
This is mostly anecdotal, but when I was chasing my own ghost in GT5 at Laguna Seca driving a car equipped very similarly to my MZ4 Coupe (well, same set of mods on the virtual MZ4 Coupe), I tried driving it right foot only, and driving it with left foot braking. The difference in lap time is stunning. I was anywhere between .5-.7 second per lap faster driving it LFB in the virtualized environment, every lap. If I was any better in real life, I can probably shave MORE time off. There are some real tangible benefits to being able to left foot brake all the time, and the biggest benefit of DCT over operating the transmission via a clutch pedal is the ability to LFB.

I prefer to think it's because of the nearly 200 extra lbs I carry over her, but yeah, I got "schooled" on the very first braking zone when I promptly spun out. And the next one. And the next. Eventually when I figured out that you can't operate the brake pedal on the go-kart like you operate the clutch pedal on a real car, I stopped spinning out and was no longer some little girl's "bitch."

For those of you who do left foot brake or think its a good idea...are you harnessed in with a racing seat?
On the track I go to there are 4/5 braking zones (depending on the size of your nutsack) and only 2 of them require a downshift. I get that the left foot braking can be more efficient and all that, but I don't see how it helps if you aren't harnessed into a seat. The only time my foot comes off of the dead pedal is to shift. The rest of the time I am pretty much using it to keep me in the same place. |

I slide the seat back (this is seat memory button #2 for me), jerk the belt to lock the cam, and while holding tension on the belt, slide the seat forward nice & close to the steering wheel and clip it in, and I'm locked in tight no matter how many G's the car's pulling and how sideways the car gets.

I theory, left foot braking can make a HUGE difference. Think of the traction circle. Right foot brakers need to lift off the gas onto the brakes and vice versa. Those milliseconds the car is coasting when you could be accelerating. So there is a clear advantage. Let's say...its .05 seconds every time you step on the brakes on a 10 turn track. That's .5 seconds per lap. Now lets say you slightly overlap the gas and the brake going into a braking zone and then do the same on turn in. There's more of an advantage there because the car is better balanced. More free time. Let's say you left foot brake into a turn leading onto a long straight. The left foot braker could, hypothetically, carry 1 mph more through the turn. At the end of the long straight...the left foot braker's 1mph advantage at the beginning of the straight multiplies as you get further down the straight...maybe by 5mph or more. If you are left foot braking more turns...that's more speed down more straights.

You know, when you clip in the seat belt into the seat belt 'receptacle.'

Anyhow, you can test it out anywhere including before you drive out from your house. I used to look thru FS threads for Recaro seats & 6-point harness 'til somebody told me about this trick, and have never looked back.
