Has anyone considered the new Volvo S60? It seems pretty nice.

I don't know, it looks a little funky to me. I like the looks of the previous model better.

I think the new S60 looks pretty good. That the one in the "Naughty" commercials right? I dont know squat about Volvos (did I just use a double negative?).

I drove the new V60 (combi model of the s60) the other day. It had a very nice diesel engine and gear box. Very comfortable and smooth drive. I will definitely consider it next time I change my car. Lot of freebies too. Very economical diesel engine with a turbo.

Pedestrian safe front bumper looks funky, the rest of the car looks good though.

Consider Volvo if you plan to take it for long drive or road trips....they've got the most comfortable seats!

I used to have 850 T5-R and a S60R. They were fun cars and quasi-performance cars. But I think Volvo is pretty much history now, at least in the US/Canada. I doubt they'll do well in sales (too many other good cars to choose from and their safety marketing is no longer exclusive.) They did poorly the last two years and I don't think this S60 reincarnation will make much of a difference.

Zhejiang Geely (the new Chinese owner) will probably just end up focusing on Asia, India and Russia as their primary market. They've already opened up Volvo factories in China for the domestic market and the head of Geely wants to see a 7-series/S-Class sized Volvo built for that market.

My fathers dealer specializes in late model Volvo's.

Ive driven them all from s40's to s80's.

Volvo's are AMAZING vehicles for what they are. They get VERY good gas mileage, are safe as hell, luxurious, some nice turbo engines. Its a perfect family vehicle. Obviously a lot different then a bmw.

s40- only model i dont like

s60- Driving a 08 volvo s60 t5 now, 33mpg (yes i said 33 right). Driven dozens of 2.5t's and 2 r models.
The new Volvo s60 is an awesome awesome deal for the price. Nice engine, very nice in my opinion, just the complete package.

s80- We sold an 07 s80 v8 awd recently, and I absolutely loved this car. So comfy and nice.

v70- GREAT all around family wagon if you dont need awd

xc70- When I have a family Ill definately buy one, nice car for trips to big bear and such.

xc90- Nice entry level SUV, not as nice as x5 and such but it costs much cheaper.

A lot of people I meet complain about Volvo's because of the previous generation models. Times have changed, they are very very reliable vehicles!

They're probably different now (somewhat), but thanks to their own marketing, I can't get past the reputation of Volvos being focused on safety and NOT about high performance. They did do an very intriguing high performance version of the C30, but it was a one-off.

My wife has a V70 R Design, it's a very good family car, solid and reliable, that's about all you can say about it. Her next car is going to be an X5 or Touraeg.

The S60 is nice but very tight in the back seat, the V60 is daft, it's got a smaller load area than the V50 yet costs a lot more, it's more a lifestyle wagon rather than a true load lugger. Volvo also need to do something with their diesels, the 5 cylinders sound great but get awful mpg.

I got naughty in a Volvo

I drove one when they had their launch in the US a few months ago. They had a comparison test set-up where you would drive (very slowly) around a small area the S60, an A4 and a 328i. Of course I only drove the S60 since I own a 330 and a friend of mine owns an S4. They had SCCA drivers there and they did a VERY short drag race between all the cars. Guess who won?
The Volvo drove nice enough. It felt better than I expected. The interior is nicely laid out, but a little poloarizing at the same time. The seats look great, but were WAY too wide for me. I'm not overweight so the bolsters didn't do much to hold me in place.
They had an autocross set-up too. The quickest time of the day would win an Apple iPad. I went over to the autocross after driving the S60 slowly for about 60 seconds and never driving on an autocross before (I've only done track events, no autocross experience at all). I spoke to one of the instructors for a short time to get some tips and the only thing he said was the fastest guys kept the car in 1st gear the entire time. That tip helped a bit. Again, this is where I really felt the seats were way too large for me because I was all over the place in the car. I did a brake stand at the start to get the car to launch and took off. I made it cleanly through the entire course without hitting any cones. A couple of turns were pretty tight and I watched a few people before me take out 5 or 6 cones at a time as they overcooked a couple corners. In the end, I finished with a time of 19.047 seconds. All the guys working there were clapping and making a big deal of it. I said that I'm almost 1 second off the quickest time (when I was there, the quickest time was 18.2 seconds - I don't know what the fastest time ended up being). They told me that I didn't understand, the top three places were by SCCA autocross champions. I guess I didn't do too badly then, but still didn't win.
In the end, I feel the Volvo is a good compromise between a performance sedan and everyday driver. I still would never trade my BMW for it.
