Getting New Battery from Dealer
The battery is dying on my 2008 E92 M3, the warranty is up in September and I want them to warranty the battery before the warranty expires.
When I brought my car in, they said they would check to see if the car was driven on too many short trips; if so, they would not warranty the battery and they would charge me for the battery inspection. Does anyone know how far back the dealer can track my car usage? The reason I ask is that I want to make sure I don't do a bunch of short trips before the dealer checks it. That way, I can make sure the dealer takes care of the battery under warranty. Thanks, KJ |

Interesting. I had no idea that was even possible.

Yes, it's definitely possible. Hard to say how far back they can look, but I'd try avoid short trips for at least a few weeks.
I had mine replaced under warranty a few months ago. There is a lot of dealer discretion in what they consider "too many short trips" based on the experiences I've read here. |

WTF is the point of a car if the manufacturer can deem how it's driven... Screw them, make them do the work.. |

We had the battery replaced in our 2008 535xi. No questions, but it has 48k miles on it. Those of you with 15k miles in 3 years may have an uphill battle even if the occasional use you give the car is not short duration driving.

But for the sake of saving me some stress and hassles, I want to make sure I avoid those hassles in the first place! Cheers, KJ |

In this case? I think BMW should replace the battery. If you come in need brakes every 5k miles? That might be a tad overboard to expect BMW to pick up that tab.

I had mine replaced for free on my 08 sedan just a while ago. Went in for a service and dealer informed me that battery was dying so they gave me a new one.
