Colorado M3 Sighting thread

You are correct, I don't think a person can go wrong w/any M. That being said I'm all over the place w/color. I started this thing last summer and was 100% at the time. Now...not so much. The only deterrent for me w/black is the long-term paint condition/cleanliness factor. I've never owned a black car and as much as I love the look, not positive on it especially living here. If there was a 6MT that fit the rest I'd pull the trigger on it but for now I've got some time.

I am my 9th year with a Jet Black M3 (daily drivers with combined miles over 100k), don't worry about how it holds up long term. If you are reasonable about maintaining your paint it holds up great (and nothing IMO looks better...)

I'm sitting at Trattoria Stella (32nd & Lowell) staring at two space grays. Ones an E93 with exhaust, HRE's & a BBK, the others a dirty(!!!) E92. Mines in the shop, makes me miss it!

Service Engine Soon, Increased Emissions. Got it back last night (after they flew the parts in from the Motherland). Turned out to be a bad Fuel Control Sensor that made the Fuel Pressure Controller also go bad. Out of warranty 5/21... buying an extended warranty from USAA because I seem to have Increased Emissions every 6 months or so, for different things every time. I really wish they still made the E90 M3, I'd do Euro Delivery of a new one in a heartbeat.

Interesting. I had the same problem with my 2009 last week, but they also replaced my fuel pump. It's my first problem in 3.5-years.

How does the USAA warranty compare to the BMW plan?

I asked my SA what's the cause - he gave me a blank smile and said he had no idea. I took that to mean, "Silly girl asking such questions..." + "I have no idea." I only have 36K miles on this car, seems odd to me that to have had 6+ Increased Emissions errors each with different causes.

It's through Assurant. 60K miles or 48 months from the time of purchase, no deductable. I was quoted ~$1875. I've asked my husband for the complete write-up so I can compare (he keeps forgetting it at work). He's confirmed for me "everything minus wear & tear" is covered though. So engine, transmission, driveline, differential, computer & electrics (incl sensors), etc would be covered... rotors and brake pads would not. Can do all that myself, so that's fine.

Shelton at Cos replaced the fuel pressure sensor in mine and then took it for a test drive and still saw codes. He elevated the case to BMW Technical and opened a PUMA case. Per their instructions, he smoke tested the intake and found no leaks there and replaced the manifold air pressure sensor. He still saw faults related to fuel pressure not matching the vehicle and ultimately replaced the fuel pump and the faults stopped.

If you have the problem again, take it to Shelton at Cos.

Thanks for the warranty info. I'll be curious to see details. I'm not sure, but I thought that BMW's warranty cost more, but included some expendables.

Ha - I've had the manifold air pressure sensor replaced in a prior service as well. Picked it up last night, no codes then or this morning. What causes the fuel pump to go out? Bad or non top tier gas? (I've not put anything less than 91 octane in, but haven't been as studious in the choice of stations I fill at except that I choose newer stations, assuming they have newer tanks with less debris.) FWIW Schomp has opened a PUMA case each time I've taken the car in for the Increased Emissions. Thanks for the recommendation - I'll keep his info handy for next time (and here's to hoping I don't have to use it).

BMW's warranty has been quoted to me at 3x that cost and isn't based on current mileage (which is where I have the most need since time expired well before the mileage). I fill with either Conoco or Shell 91 octane, except when I blend some 100-octane for autocross (half and half). I doubt that fuel has impact on the fuel pump, unless it's full of debris. For minor impurities I'd expect the filters to catch it before it damages the fuel pump.

I've read that the BMW warranty varies quite widely from dealer to dealer. Based on their unwillingness to deal on a car, I'd expect Schomp to be at the high end of the possibilities. At 3-times the cost, it'd take a lot of expendables to break even.

I'm like you, with only 25,000 miles so far.

Looks pretty thorough except there was one statement under FAQ's "What does the plan cover --> Comprehensive" that made one eyebrow go up: "Parts listed under the "Exclusions from Coverage" section of the service agreement which the Assurant Solutions companies will mail to you within three days after they complete the payment for your vehicle. When you enroll online you will see a sample agreement." We're going to check into what that means before purchasing...
