Sorry, gotta say the E55. I've driven the E92 pretty extensively (friend of mine from college is a manager at herbchambers) and the acceleration pales in comparison to the W211 E55.
Now when it comes to the twisties....need i continue? |

Over on Mbworld, stock E55s have broke into the 11's with mid-high 110's. It's basically just a highway bruiser with decent handling. |

The wife of an E55 owner used to tell his husband and kids to leave the Porsches alone. He bested my best time from the Stuttgart airport to xyz by a full 5 minutes on a 100 km run. Mercedes may have an "old man" reputation, but they pretty much own the autobahn.

oops, then again I haven't been beaten by any of the new M5's either. Something to do when the warranty fell off I had the Supercharger tweaked and Headers and both limiters deleted. (504 rwhp) and a slight larger torque curve. It's a beast for a reason... |

I have had a CLS55 and now a CLK63. The CLK63 is a tad quicker but the CLS weighed a little more. I'd guess it's a toss up. An E55 would probably beat the new M3 in a straight line. Its 469 bhp and 516 lb ft are impressive. |

Even with the extra weight, in a straight line I'd side with the AMG. However on paper the numbers seem favorable to the M3. Horsepower numbers that is, torque is completely different I guess.
M3... 3700lbs (est) @ 414hp = 8.94hp/lbs E55... 3990lbs @ 469hp = 8.51hp/lbs

in a strait line, if both cars r stock the e55 is the faster car no question. i have never raced an e55 but i have raced an e63, which is just as fast as the e55. I pulled ahead in the beginning but the e63 just keep pulling and by the time we hit triple digits the e63 was ahead and still pulling.

LOL, .....brooklyn bridge, 'nuff said. Give credit where credit is due I would never try to run an m3 in the twisties, but on the open highway, I'm sorry no offense but not a chance in hell a bone stock m3 can keep up at triple digit speeds. 0-100mph yes, but 100+ mph that's another story. You must have gone up against a 55 that was heat soaked.

295 lb/ft vs 516 lb/ft. M3 is fast but strictly in a line I'd say AMG with its crazy low end pull.

But for a straight drag race it's high horsepower that makes more of a difference. It's only off the line that the torque is important and from what I'm reading here the Merc is worse off the line.
Obviously in this case the car has higher torque and hp figures so it doesn't matter |

Fellas, the E55 AMG is faster than a stock M3 and a tad faster than an M3 that is tuned (mine) as I had the pleasure of running behind one yesterday. I didn't think he was going to go (we were turning onto a parkway and had been going back and forth checking each others rides out - I just got the HID halos so I have been getting a lot of attention) but as we turned on the parkway there was not a soul on the road so he got on it...I realized it and was already in MDM and punched it...I could tell that his torque took him out quicker along with the S/C spooling up...very IMPRESSIVE!! but as I increased my RPM's and speed I was able to reel him back in until the next shift, then the same...he would take a slight jump but again, quickly reeled him in...I would say he had at least 3-4 car lengths lead on me from the start and really ended up the same the whole time. I think if we could have continued the stretch I would have gotten closer but we weren't really racing just stretching the cars out and seeing what would happen. I was impressed with the M3...I thought for sure when he stepped on it he would be gone but being able to hold on and keep the same distance the whole time...well, I am glad I am tuned and the music of the engine and exhaust...damn awesome. He had all windows up, etc...I had all mine down and the damn sunroof open so that caused turbulence...I also have 20's and he was all stock...could have been a little different with lighter wheels and windows all closed but I still think the E55 AMG in a straight shot will still get the M3 in the long run...just not by much...still smiling!

I met a guy with a CLS63 who told me that he beat a new M3 by about a car and a half to two cars. Do you guys think that's accurate? Seems like that car should have beaten an M3 by more than that!
