E90 LCI Swap Question - Reverse Lights

Just got done installing some stuff including the LCI trunk/tails on my E90. I am going tomorrow to get coding handled, but wasn't sure if my reverse lights should be working currently or whether that's something that will be fixed with coding.

Thanks in advance!

You need to switch a few wires around in the socket... Dont have it at the moment but if you search you'll find the thread you need (With pictures / step by step)

Believe this is the thread you mean: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327782

I thought he did that to avoid coding since everyone had told me just plug in and get coding

Coding is required regardless.

I cannot speak for all production builds but I had the exact symptom you've mentioned, did as the thread described, and solved the problem.

Now you can take my advice or choose to doubt my suggestion in trying to help you

Like BIU already stated. Coding is required regardless because the LED's have a much lower current. You could use some resistors but coding is much cleaner IMO. You also have to change the wire order for the inner lights, the coding will not fix that.

When I did the conversion on my 08 in the above mention thread I was frustrated as hell, but with the conversion you can relatively easily make your 08 look like a 13 model year sedan!

Im about to buy the lights for my conversion, i already have the trunk waiting for paint.

Besides the LCI lights... What other parts do i need that don't swap over? My trunk has the lock for the key, however i dont think the lci has it... Anything else I need?

Thank you as well Mr Metak! Coding, wiring and everything is now done.

Just coding. You can swap the other stuff and just leave the lock off the car.

I just went and bought a set of the LCI-style taillights. No need for a whole trunk lid and coding. Plug and play install.

It looks pretty close to LCI and no one can tell it's not factory besides BMW enthusiasts.

I thought about going that route, but talked to a couple people who previously had them. They said they felt cheap and that the color didn't look right. I prefer the sharp lines of the LCI tails as well.

It doesn't look the same as LCI but it looks close enough that most people would never notice. If I had the budget, I would probably do the OEM LCI conversion.

My neighbor has an LCI 3 series. Parking the two cars side by side, it is very hard to tell the difference. If you look closely, you can see the inner LED lines are a bit longer on OEM and the outside taillight LED lines are a bit brighter when lit. But these are differences you only see when you see them side by side. The LED turn signal part is a lighter red on the LCI-style lights because it blinks amber but that is no different than the Euro OEM LCI.

I went from this:

To this:

I too was set on an LCI swap, but after getting the MARS taillights, the cost/benefit ratio is not worth it in my eyes at the moment for the LCI swap.

^ You had posted trying to trade your pre-lci trunk and mars tails for an LCI set-up. You must have thought it was worth the cost/benefit at that time, no?
