Opinions on Bridgestone Potenza S-04? and Tire Size Opinions

Anyone have experience with this tire? Seems inexpensive relative to others and available in GTS sizes.

What are your thoughts on going with a 255/285 tire combo vs a 255/275 combo in the much hyped Michelin PSS?

Thanks in advance.

I have them on my Audi S4 and they are overall a good tire. Good traction wet or dry, fairly quit and ride well. The only drawback is they are a little on the heavy side.

Can't really comment on them on an M3 but I think they would be good and probably the best choice in 255/285 size.

Thanks for the information. The price is definitely right and the size is perfect for my ZCPs.

Anyone else have opinions?

Its either this or the 255/275 PSS combo...anyone care to suggest anything else?

Just wondering if the extra size is worth going to a perceived inferior tire.

If you do decide to go with them please post up a picture of what they look like once they are mounted

Will do but with the lack of comments, I doubt I will be and will stick with the 255/275 combo of PSS.

S04 is a very good tire. PSS has the best grip of any pure street tire right now. The S04 is one of its closer competitors and has very stable, predictable handling. The PSS feels a bit more 'on edge,' which can be either wonderfully agile or nervous depending on your perspective.

Thanks Ben! If you can whole heartedly recommend them as a suitable alternative I will buy them and try.

I just put a set of S-04's on my E-90 with sports package.

I previously had Bridgestone RFT's, Michelin PS2's and Conti DW's.

The S-04's feel great. They feel sticky and much firmer than the DW's without being harsh. The car feels planted, not mushy like new DW's. The new S-04's ride harder than worn DW's, yet they are quiet.

The S-04's came in 2nd in Car&Driver's and Tirerack's latest summer tire comparison tests.

Great! Thanks for the info. Do you know off hand which tires were in the comparison test?

Any reason not to consider the RE-11 bridgstones - they are a step above and will outperform the S-O4 - they are super sticky - see what the Tire rack guys have to say about them - I have them on my 911 and 135i best tires I have ever owned

i didn't see them on Tire Rack's site. They were having a sale as they are getting replaced shortly but they were not available at the time I was going to purchase. Something I would definitely consider. Thanks.

I'm looking for tires for mostly street and track 2-3 times a year. So, do you think the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 is the closest tire to PSS?
If yes, i'm thinking to buy S04 over PSS.

Assuming that you want a balance of wet and dry weather traction, and that the S04 comes in your desired sizes, yes, those would be good.

Keep in mind that any street tire can be eaten up in one track day if you are not careful. If you go flying into corners, scrub off speed with understeer, and then mash the gas and drift your way out, you could easily trash the tires in a few sessions. If you conserve them a bit they may look a little chewed up, but should still be perfectly serviceable.

If you do not need as much wet traction, something like the Yokohama AD08, Bridgestone RE-11, or BFGoodrich GForce Rival will take a bit more abuse on the track without giving up the ghost.
