blacked out wheels

I just put in an order for m3 19s powdercoated jet black today. Bmw is sending me them so that I can drive my car while the wheels are being powdercoated. They should be arriving and applied on Wednesday. Man I'm stoked!!!!

What I did was I had the accessories manager at my local bmw dealership order a new set of oem 19's from the factory, and the factory is powdercoating them for me with their 668 jet black color code. This way, I don't have to go 2 weeks without wheels while I am waiting for my wheels to get powdercoated by a paint shop. I will swap the silver rims out for the black rims when the black ones arrive. Sorry if that sounds complicated, for it really is not. And most definitely you will see pictures. I am going to post before and after pics of my car, since I am putting other exterior mods on as well. Thanks for the support guys.

$1800 is much less than what I figured BMW would charge for OEM wheels. Hell the style 269 and 313 run you twice that.

be careful.. powerdercoating weakens the wheel.. I remember many reports of OEM forged 350z wheels cracking after a few years when they have been powdercoated.

Perhaps an engineer can chime in here, but this seems like an urban legend to me at this point. I have never seen/heard of any wheel that simply failed after powder coating without an impact of some kind. I believe (could be wrong) that powder coating is generally done under 450 degrees F. I suppose that if a wheel had a pre-existing structural flaw before the powder coating maybe PCing the wheel might not help, but it sounds like a wheel like that would probably fail anyway.

I know a ton of guys that powder coated their 4x4 wheels and haven't had a failure yet, regardless of the torque their trucks put down, or the rocks/stumps/etc that they drive over. Not sure if this count's as a thread jack, but it seems fairly on topic to my mind.
