I believe it. In my E90, I've discovered that if I do the hokey pokey and turn myself around after pressing the start button with the ring finger of my left hand, I have 8 1/2 extra horsepower on tap.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Lots of products have built in test modes for diagnostics or simply because engineers find such things neat...

Hell, the Acura NSX had a procedure one could do to turn off ABS.

Besides, turning off traction control is standard for pretty much every car in the class, is it so surprising that Lexus would not install a button to save themselves from liability but then leak out this information to still provide access to the tire buring goodness?

Yes indeed, it goes up to 12 extra horseys in post-September production cars - there is a software patch for pre-September production cars.

For all your 325i owners, I emailed BMW about this article concerning the Lexus, and I demanded we get at least one cheat code. They happily complied, and replied with the following:

Start your vehicle; set cabin temp to 76 on the left and 81 on right; (on the steering wheel) press the volume keys UP, UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN; roll rear windows all the way down, then front windows all the way down, then all back up at the sametime; pop the trunk;adjust driver's mirror LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT; finally, honk the horn to the beat of "Jingle Bells" for the duration of one verse; and voilah...you look like an ass! Enjoy!

That's stupid that you need a cheat code to turn traction control off. It should just be a button.

Dude, Socal - you got the cheat code all wrong! It's UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A.

In my big bro's M Roadster, he had this red button he tossed on next to the steering wheel and claimed that it's his secret boost button. I thought it was a joke but it was truly the real thing. He apparently set up an option with a switch to reprogram/remap his ECU on-the-fly with that button. The change in power and throttle response was immense.

Apparently I've been hanging around the farm too long as the newer M3's also have this option.

Didn't you guys see the post on here a while ago about the bmw cheat code?

This only works if you have the iDrive/navigation though, enables a leaner air/fuel ratio mixture which supposedly increases horsepower. All you have to do is start the car, and while the iDrive is loading (and only when it's loading) and the screen still show sthe BMW sign, use the iDrive knob and push up-down, up-down, left-right, left-right, A, B, A, B, then enter. Now you got unlimited weapons, oops I mean increase horsepower.

Seriously considered the IS before setting on the 330i. When at the dealer, where everything said is true, the sales person said he attended a Lexus event and drove the cars. Afterward some Pro drivers took over and also drove. He said they got on the phone with the Tech guys and disabled the traction controls via some 'code' similar sounding to this crap.

I think he was trying to snow me into believing I could buy the Lexus and find out on the internet how to disable it. There's no doubt they are losing sales dut to that stupidity. Along with the small cabin space, it was one of the major reasons I did not buy the Lexus.

BTW, BMW does have a code--hold the DTS button in for 5 s, and the nanny shuts off. If Lexus was going to have a 'code' it would be similar, not some absurdity.

Can't you just press Ctrl-Alt-Delete or go into DOS mode with the IS?
