I guess I could try to source two more rear OEMs to make a square set but according to this website http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/ a rear OEM 219 wheel weighs 12.6 kg or 27 lbs. Apex claims that the Arc 8 18x10 weighs around 19 lbs, and it's 1/2 inch wider. I prefer the look of the OEM wheel but if I can save around 8 lbs of unsprung weight per corner it's a no brainer. I'll go the with Apex.

I'm curious enough about the discrepancy to try to weigh them in a more rigorous manner come spring.

ps2 account for most of the difference as they are 22-23 lbs instead of 25-26 like most tires around that size.

For example, you can mount four wheels on the car before leaving home and can bring a spare in case you get a flat on your way to the track and/or to rotate tires at the track. It would save you the hassle of bringing all 4 track wheels with you in the car or the risk of losing your track weekend if you have an issue on the road.

275/35R18s. They fit just right on a 9.5" wide wheel.

From track experience, I would highly recommend a square set up - both for convenience of rotating tires and the added grip at the front - which as your driving progresses, you'll need more and more.
If you need any suggestions on Volks, other wheels, or tire recommendations, let us know. |
